In a rush between meetings today, usually walk but needed a black cab. Must have tried to flag about 20 with what looked like the 'yellow light' on, but it wasn't. Is this just me or is it design error on modern cabs. It's hard to see the on off state, especially in sunlight.

Many disrespectful comments about @DInspLeeMartin.. this man is decent, an excellent detective & has so much empathy, care for victims & drive for justice. If you had a family member murdered you would be so grateful to see Lee as SIO. This just detracts from a man murdering his wife & his two daughters aged 15 & 5… that’s what we need to be focusing on. @bedspolice

The victims jaw was broken in the assault. Now, police have released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to as part of their enquiries.

Kay Burley slams an abuse victim by telling her she should remember Prince Andrew was a Falklands War Hero. That's like saying Fred West was a skilful builder.

Oh the irony. Virgin now proved to have been screwing the nation over broadband, and stopped people fixing. Nice to see Ofcom showing teeth with the fine. Lets hope that starts a trend.

@VisionExpress just ensured the most frustrating, upsetting, poor customer service experience from your store in Finchley Road, not once but over a combined period since an order was placed on May 27th.

Six of these ten Highland Councillors voted to allow a taxi driver who raped a passenger to keep his operator’s license — even though senior police officers urged them not to. Please note that although we’re constantly told it’s women who grease the wheels for rapists, every single councillor who voted in rapist David Brown’s favor is a man. Take a good look at them, Scottish women: these 6 men would put you, alone and unwarned, in a taxi with a man who has already raped at least one passenger. Brown has been put on the register for life; he raped an 18 year old girl and dumped her outdoors on a sub-zero January night in the Scottish Highlands; but these 6 men - Chris Birt, John Grafton, Ruraidh Stewart, Sean Kennedy, Willy MacKay, and Duncan MacPherson - are more concerned about his finances than they are about the safety of local women. share.google/6yJSc8hRBt5diY…

This is the City Barge pub in Chiswick right now. What do you notice? It’s 3pm and they’re open. It’s a sunny day. Yes, that’s right; they have had to remove all of the tables and chairs outside. They have had to destroy their own business. Why? Because Rick Rowe, a Green Party councillor on Hounslow council, who lives very, very, very close to this pub and complains about it almost daily, has banned all three pubs here on strand on the Green Chiswick, from having outside tables. I can only assume he hates pubs, hates business and hates the British way of life. This would usually be buzzing with people enjoying their afternoon. However, they’re the wrong sort of people for Rick.

Now remind me what was all that bonus ban nonsense all about?
Novara Media@novaramedia

A former water company boss has been handed a £270k bonus despite a parasite outbreak that sickened more than 140 people and caused a public health scandal. Susan Davy stepped down as chief executive of Pennon, the group that owns South West Water, last year. She received the six-figure sum despite the board initially deciding to withhold the bonus following a public outcry. South West Water pumped drinking water to thousands of homes in Devon containing cryptosporidium, a microscopic parasite that causes a highly infectious gastrointestinal illness. The outbreak in May 2024 impacted approximately 17,000 homes and lasted more than 50 days. The parasite left four people requiring hospital treatment and caused more than 140 confirmed cases of sickness and diarrhoea. South West Water was fined a record £1.8m after pleading guilty to supplying water unfit for human consumption, following a prosecution brought by the Drinking Water Inspectorate. The company offered a “full and unreserved apology”. Former environment secretary Steve Reed introduced legislation in February 2025 to prevent water companies paying out bonuses to executives if they fail to meet strict environmental and consumer standards. However, Davy’s payouts were reinstated after guidance from regulator Ofwat over how the new rules would be applied. Davy, who claimed the parasite outbreak caused her “sleepless nights”, received a £270,000 bonus for 2024-25 and an £87,000 bonus for 2025-26, The Telegraph reported. That was in addition to a base salary and benefits of £561,000 for 2024-25, and £473,000 for the nine months of 2025-26 before she left the company. With pensions and share allocations, Davy earned more than £1m in 2024-25. Allies of Andy Burnham, who is widely believed to be the next prime minister-in-waiting, have said the new MP for Makerfield wants to bring ‘the essentials of life’ – including water – back into public control. More than four in five Brits support nationalising the country’s water companies, YouGov polling from earlier this month revealed.
