Finally. It made no sense for Israel to not take up the unprecedented offer (at least not since 1983) and open diplomatic talks with Lebanon without preconditions. No downsides and only opportunities.

@vali_nasr .@vali_nasr can you please expand a bit and explain what you see as indicators of the war deepening the rift, as well as how Pakistani mediation is playing into it?

It looks like Pakistan mediation is exposing further rift between Saudi Arabia and UAE. Rather than bringing GCC into unity the war is tearing apart.

This is precisely one of so many things that should have been considered and addressed prior to the initiation of hostilities. Not now, particularly when flights are grounded in so many countries in the AOR. Amateurishness results when you gut agencies and professionals.

@citrinowicz Isn’t the Iranian position a bit silly? The only way they are genuinely going to determine the US position is by sitting with the US, not by public exchanges. Seems like the Iranians are simply internally consumed at the moment, no?

The Iranians didn't change their mind regarding negotiations with the US - they are still ready to negotiate but they think that the US is trying to dictate the results of the negotiations by demanding zero enrichment and limitations to their missile program. Until one side won't back down no chance for an agreement regardless of the declarations.

צפיתי בראיון המלא עם קושנר ו-וויטקוף, והנה כמה אובזרווציות - 1. קושנר אומר שהוא לא מתכנן להישאר בעמדת המתווך. מבחינתו הוא בא לזמן קצר, ויחזור לעסקיו. תחזית - זה לא יעבוד. אחת משתיים - או שהעסק יתפרק די מהר, או שקושנר יישאר מעורב לזמן רב. 2. קושנר בנושא פתרון 2 המדינות - אנשים אומרים לי שבין עזה לאיו"ש יש הבדלים תרבותיחם משמעותיים, כי הם היו מנותקים לזמן רב. אז לא בטוח שהם בכלל ירצו להתחבר בעתיד... קודם צריך לייצר הנהגות מתפקדות בכל אחד מהאזורים, ואז שהם יחליטו אם הם רוצים להתחבר. בקיצור - קושנר מנסה למשוך זמן ולמסמס את הנושא. גם כאן, קשה להאמין שהגישה הזו תחזיק מים לאורך זמן. 3. ניגודי עניינים - כשהמראיינת מעלה את נושא העסקים של השניים בקטאר, קושנר מנפנף אותה עם המשפט האלמותי - "למה שאנשים קוראים 'ניגוד עניינים'? סטיב ואני קוראים 'נסיון וקשרים'" 🤣 תודו שזו מדרגה חדשה של חוצפה... והוא מוסיף - "אף אחד לא הראה שהעסקים שלנו מנוגדים לאינטרסים של ארה"ב". הממ.. יכול להיות, אבל כפי שהוא יודע היטב, לא זו הנקודה.. הנקודה היא שהם אולי טובים לאינטרסים של ארה"ב, אבל הם *גם* מנפחים את הכיסים של קושנר, וויטקוף ובני ביתם. 4. הדיאלוג הישיר עם חמאס - השניים מתארים את הגישה ה'עסקית' של טראמפ ושלהם לנושא, באופן אמין למדי. It's all business. ובמקום אחר קושנר מסביר שממשלים קודמים שמו דגש על *ערכים*, אבל אצלם האינטרסים תופסים מקום ראשון. המטרה - להגיע ל'דיל' - מקדשת את כל האמצעים. אפשר להסכים או לא עם הגישה הזו, אבל לפחות הם שמים אותה על השולחן בלי כחל וסרק. ואפשר גם לתהות היכן נפגוש את הגישה הזו במעלה הדרך. אולי בעסקה עתידית עם איראן? 5. איראן - קושנר אומר שאינו עוסק בנושא. וויטקוף מעדכן שהוא וצוותו עוסקים בכך ורומז שיש התקדמות לעסקה. מעניין. 6. כללי - הרושם הכללי הוא שהשניים נחושים לא לתת לדיל שלהם עם החמאס להתמוטט. אבל גם שמדובר בשני ברנשים שהמושג שלהם לגבי ההיסטוריה, מורכבות הסוגיות, ועומק הדברים - בניגוד לעולם הנדל"ן שבו הם רגילים לשחות - קלוש ביותר. נאחל להם בהצלחה, כי הצלחתם הצלחתנו.
