Why I hate Taiwan: The past week was emotionally mixed for me. It was the most significant holiday, allowing me to reconnect with family. However, I also faced the harsh reality of the Taiwanese media, which seems entrenched in political animosity towards the CCP. This has led to spread of misinformation, labeling DeepSeek as a Chinese scam. In the past week, I talked with 6-7 family members regarding Deepseek, from an 18-year-old high school cousin to uncles who trade stocks and follow AI with podcasts. All expressed similar initial impressions about Deepseek. 1. They stole the tech from the U.S 2. It's a fraud 3. The whole thing is fake, they actually use lots of resources and lied about it I googled "DeepSeek" and found no positive reports in the last 5 days, with the results primarily consisting of claims from what is considered a neutral source: * It's "confirmed" that they stole the tech from OpenAI. * It's bad and "China Cheap": only a 17% correction rate to distinguish fake news. * Someone "confessed" to selling Nvidia chips to DeepSeek. It seems that the international trend now is to FUD DeepSeek while keeping OpenAI on a pedestal, but it's depressing that even new media and podcast channels are spreading what I consider misinformation. I have found almost zero media mentions of: * it's open source * it's a reasoning model * how it's free Not to mention that many "real expert usage reports" on R1, a reasoning model, is simply asking it, "Is Taiwan part of China?" and classifying it as a Chinese propaganda if the answer is not what they expected. I know there are lots of people who work in the AI field who are actually celebrating this breakthrough, but I'm just sad that it seems like everyone else in Taiwan has zero exposure to a more neutral source of AI news, which is probably the most important tech in decades

It always messes my mind how buying or selling an ETF takes a few tap on my iPhone screen But buying or selling the equal $$$ as a house is a massive ordeal of visiting, real estate agents, talking, meeting, signing documents, visiting a notary, talking to banks for months

TIL: A UX tip for better managing UI states across tabs or frames. @nextauthjs uses `BroadcastChannel` to synchronize the authentication state across them. Besides the UX tip, `BroadcastChannel`'s polyfill can be implemented by leveraging `localStorage` and `storage` event.
