@PalmyrPar Phones are to blame. People needed to be bored sitting around thinking/talking about work and letting their brain spin instead of what happens now.

@the_smart_ape This has always been my reason for avoiding GCP. The systems are just too easy to fall afoul of. Perhaps it never happens but are you willing to take the risk?

@mudscryer You should listen to “Untold: The Retreat”. It’s on Spotify and the name changes every time they do a new season but you can find it easily. Talks about people giving themselves mental illness and severe psychosis via meditation.

@cryprecision No I have never done any martial arts sparring or even argued aggressively but I would totally be capable of transforming to Neo and defeating 500 opponents.

@EthanEvansVP Seems incredibly risky to take on a managerial role currently. Even if it is ok today there’s a high chance the pool of jobs shrinks in the future. It will change again one day but for now I would avoid.

I'm now being asked a question that never came up before this year - "Is there still a manager career path? Should I go back to being an IC?"

Flying is much more pleasant now than in the past. Controversial I know but WiFi and better drinks service goes a long way.

@benhylak There are already far better machines that do this without needing to be humanoid.

@facetedcarapace Craziest to me is when people do it on planes. I have seen it three times now and each time the flight attendants have dealt with it but still..

@hasen_95dx Totally different world of tooling and customer expectations when agile and sprints became popular. That's before you even get to the fact that every company would say they do sprints but it was every two weeks with no break between.

You should replace "Chop Wood, Carry Water" in your mind with: "Do Laundry, Wash Dishes". The most zen state of mind of course being "Make a toddler a sandwich that they requested then don't eat".

Feel like I'm missing out because I don't use skills, or a lot of MCP, or multi-agent orchestrations when using AI dev tools. I'm just like "implement this feature" or "how do this work" or "no not like that, do this instead". Idk, I feel fast and accurate so why change?

@cairoasmith It carried over to Australia too. We looked at a property where the front and backyards were on a 99 year lease as if renegotiating is something anyone wants to do then.

The UK really needs to stop making ninety-nine-year deals for things. They always assume that's so far out that it's not even worth considering. Then, ninety-nine years later, they get punched in the gut with the geopolitical L by their own great-grandfathers.
