I feel like I have landed in a really good space with working alongside agents. Review process is much more robust with wireless bugs reaching production. Big improvement has been keeping tests focused instead of the default agent behavior with lots of tests doing nothing.

@kenwheeler Been looking at a few similar things but have the same issue. TRMNL seems good for an e-ink screen with an OS. Unfortunate that e-ink is so expensive compared to other screens but battery is a huge win.

Unsurprising. The best athletes go into the highest paying sports. Usually that’s not mma, the reward/risk ratio just isn’t there. Probably most nfl guys could be top mma contenders with a year or two or training.

First of all, this isn’t true. You can make $400k a year as a Senior Engineer under any interpretation of this statement.
But more importantly, if you want to make like $800k a year, then the important thing to know is that you don’t have to go into management, but you do have to know how to manage people.
For a senior IC engineer that means knowing how to:
* Lead a multi person, multi quarter initiative
* Convince people of your ideas
* Communicate and reiterate a vision
* Flag under and over performance
* Talk to a lot of people
If your definition of non-management means you just show up to standup thee days a week and sit off camera in a couple planning meetings, then yes $400k is going to be around your ceiling.

@MostlyMonkey I had a great time moving into management but at least in tech it seems like the role is being severely purged. I suspect that will change again in another 3-5 years.

I avoided management until i was around 40. I leaned into it for 3 reasons:
1) comp trajectory had flatlined as an IC
2) could leverage my impact a lot by managing
3) if I lost my job, best option would be to find a new one as a manager in my field. IC would be massive downgrade

Taking the severance isn't the problem. No hiring manager is going to pull your file and say "wait, did this guy technically get PIP'd or did he technically resign." They see one thing: how long you've been out of work. That's where people get in trouble. You take 60 days of paid leave. Add 12 weeks of severance on top. Suddenly you've got five months of runway and you're telling yourself you've earned a break, you worked hard, you deserve to reset. Then you reenter the market at month six and realize how brutal it is right now. Resume gaps are social proof to hiring managers, just the wrong kind. 1-2 months, no one cares. At 3 months, it may start effecting you. 6 months out, they start wondering why nobody else has scooped you up. Sure, you can explain the gap on a call. The problem is you have to get the call first. The longer you're out, the more you self eliminate before anyone ever hears your reasoning. Take the severance, just be careful if you're thinking about a career sabbatical.
