Yes, this example can be reapplied to coding or now software engineering. Previously, there were people who wrote a lot of things at three-figure digit WPM on their keyboard, like competitive programmers, etc. Now, that thing—the coding part—is going to become obsolete due to fast LLMs that give whatever code we want. But now, the thing that arrives is like having a machine that can do anything on its own—like a drilling machine, a self-driving car, and other machinery. But you still need an experienced operator to operate it perfectly. Now, we can see from this example: previously, manual labor was in large quantity and required a lot of work. Now, there are fewer manual laborers, but these fewer workers are highly specialized, operating the machines that perform tasks on behalf of many laborers. And the remaining people are those who adapt themselves to work alongside these new machines. The same applies to us coders. We just need to sharpen our analytical thinking, problem-solving, and project management skills. We now have a machine (AI agent LLM) that can do any work we want, we just need to operate it properly while still understanding what's happening at the core behind the scenes.

@tsoding Funny thing is, my mum and grandma would cook similarly to “vibe cooking”. No precise measurements needed, just go by taste and feel.

@tsoding I agree with this. Making delicious food, and using what you’ve got on hand the best way you can is a lot like coding. Plus it’s delicious, and makes you a great host 😊

@tsoding It is a reality that AI is going to do better and better. The human skills valued will be software requirements specification through natural language (like a customer but with technical knowledge) and testing the correctness of the result within the expected computational cost.

@tsoding Great analogy. Speaking of cooking and coding I think the cook, baker, chef paradigm is also very relevant right now. Chef would be a vibe-cook/baker but he can't become one without first being a good cook and a good baker. It's a process.

@tsoding The day AI codes better than humans means the day AI can code a better AI and the intelligent explosion occurs. Until then we have an extremely good auto-complete that cannot do anything on its own (beyond the silly examples like bouncing balls and simple games)

@tsoding Eventually you'll figure out that presentation skills don't really matter unless you're working at a fancy restaurant or trying to impress a date. Everyone else just wants to sit down and eat. Also your described cooking. After saying don't learn to cook. Are you okay bro?
