@ChrisMoyse @sgort100 @donlon_chris @Strickomaster @AlexAtherton100 It was a weird one. Had already had a 2 hour chat with the Head on my pre application visit, they were 'thrilled' when I applied, changed the closing date after receiving my application. Interviewed 3 of us on day one, then wanted day 2. I didn't have time. They've readvertised.

@ChrisMoyse @sgort100 @donlon_chris @Strickomaster @AlexAtherton100 0.4 SENCO job, non teaching. First day 3 x tasks, panel interview, pupil led tour/interview. Second stage teaching mixed ability SEND children + another panel interview. I'm already an experienced SENCO with +ive references. So much time commitment. I withdrew.

@sgort100 @donlon_chris @Strickomaster @AlexAtherton100 The interview process is pathetic tbh. I remember a two day interview with panels, data tasks, group tasks, lessons observations, student tour and panel, governors interview, SLT interview …. All for a two bit ass head job on crap money. And we wonder why folk can’t be arsed

@thosethatcan We also make a list on the kitchen whiteboard of people we want to see more often because they are fun. Then we book them in. Even if it's months away/they live miles away.

Make a list of 20 things that bring you joy. Actively seek them out. Schedule them in. Book ahead. Of all the #wellbeing advice I share and try (not always successfully) to follow, this is possibly the most powerful. #teacherwellbeingselfcare

@HughesHaili I've had a year out and tried some education related things. I'd like a combo of class teaching and research, but I know that's not realistic. It's a shame. I'm fascinated by the way we learn, I love actual teaching, but I sort of felt pushed out by the education environment.

One of the things which has struck me about the interviews @Sam_LGibbs and I have been doing for our book has been that many of the 100+ teachers we've interviewed, who've served 20+ years are career teachers...a thread 🧵

@HughesHaili Middle leadership is awful - a workload combination that means class teaching AND your leadership role are done badly, usually at the weekend. It's hard to keep up with the stress of the workload, so people get disillusioned by the whole thing. I left teaching.

@HughesHaili I would have loved to have stayed in the classroom without anything extra on top, but I also wanted to earn more money. Looking at less experienced people who were my line managers, but not as 'good' as me in a classroom, but earning more, made me go for leadership roles.

@OhLottie Embrace it. Accept it. Make sofa related plans - telly, books, hobbies, board games. Make fresh air and exercise plans. Eat seasonal comfort food. This makes it bearable until the end of January, after which even the best made plans become hard to embrace.

I’m not made for this weather but rather than mourning summer all winter long, I want to actually make the best of it and embrace the change of season. I want to thrive not just survive 😅 Please give me your top winter tips. I’m already taking vitamin D daily. What else?

@timlinehan Is it because a pupil's 'normal way of working' is much more likely to involve extra time, technology, scribed support etc in independent schools (where parents pay for this 'normal way of working')?

Worth digging into this: 42% of pupils in independent schools get extra time in exams compared to 26.5% in state schools (some caveats). I'd be interested in knowing more about the neurodivergent intake of both. Anyone have any data? tinyurl.com/5n73usnd

We watched Deadpool 3 tonight. I dunno. A lot of extended fight scenes to cult pop songs. Maybe too many cameos? Fun to watch though. Then again I didn’t enjoy Deadpool 2 on first watch but now I really like it, so let’s not trust my opinions on anything.

@Oldprimaryhead1 Wonder what 'inclusion' will actually be judged on. Will they ask children if they feel included?

@mrsrobertsgeog I wonder what training SLT think teachers need? Do they need it too?

This is one reason why teachers are leaving en masse. Look at the disparity between those on the ground and those sat in their ivory towers. Of course poor behaviour requires more training ran by a deputy who hasn’t seen a timetable in a decade, it couldn’t possibly req presence

A one framework fits all approach again it seems. Wonder what mainstream secondary style practices are going to be forced onto our primary/SEND/AP colleagues this time?

#dailydogwalk So much sand has shifted on our beach. Never seen so many rocks visible. Weird when you realise this lot has been under your feet all this time.... Reminder to look up AND look down!

The fact that we have a King, who rides in a gold carriage, who is opening food banks to celebrate his 76th birthday, perfectly encapsulates everything that is wrong with this country.

@thosethatcan I'm slowly moving to Bluesky - had it for a year, just taking my time finding everyone. Unfortunate fact is that here has been professionally very useful - stuff that the algorithm brings up often more than stuff I've found myself. Shame he's broken it.

Call me stubborn or foolish but I’m sticking on Twitter for now. I’m not willing to give up on my hard-won, brilliant network, nor on fighting the good fight, as my headteacher Kevin used to put it. Who else is still here?

@dave_mcpartlin I've had lovely conversations with quite young children who have been diagnosed and then tried medication. They've been absolutely dumbfounded - 'oh, this is how everyone else can learn'. Makes me realise how hard it was for them 'before'.

Going through my own ADHD diagnosis has given me a whole new understanding of what’s happening inside my own head, but I can’t stop thinking about the kids who are struggling and totally unaware of what’s going on in theirs.

@thosethatcan We went early into hibernation this year. Have been enjoying the sofa/TV option - driven there by the grey weathwr. Today was made nicer by the sun finally coming out!

Surviving November. It never ceases to amaze me how draining this month can be. I've had so many conversations with people about loss of mojo. This too shall pass. Here's a piece I wrote about managing the Autumn months for @tes a few years ago. tes.com/magazine/archi…
