@CryptoCyberia When I already read that Apple approved it.
Its so fucking gay, that Apple has build an ecosystem where they control everything.
You wanna game ? Nope, we dont allow it and even if we do in rare cases, you will buy the game from the Appstore where we can make 30%.
Neat.
It not supporting gaming isn't a big deal for me here, since it seems apparent that Apple doesn't care about gaming at all, and building out and maintaining these drivers isn't free.
My initial culture shock from macos has passed. Hardware part of the device is absolutely amazing, Macbooks mog my beloved ThinkPads if we don't count repairability.
Macos is worse than KDE and Hyprland, but it's much better than Windows. I'm quite excited to learn the platform, and maybe even some ARM assembly.
I also have to clarify about xcode because I saw "just install cli without apple id" comments - I know that, but sadly cli is limited (for example, no testing on real devices).
@emanuelturis@NearestCommit You cannot really brick Apple silicon laptops, Worst you can do is soft brick it in which case you can restore it with a DFU restore (using another Mac or another windows laptop using idevicrestore), but yeah you lose your data doing so, so not ideal
@BroUncultured@Not_Prasar Ok but what if you want Wayland? Also I am not sure if xquartz even works on the latest version of MacOS it didn't have any updates for a while now
@Not_Prasar What's the appeal of running Linux on a Mac?
You can replace MacOS's BSD userspace with GNU tools. You can run an entire Linux desktop environment on macOS with X11. GIMP used to be a GTK X11 app that ran this way. No one does this because it's an inferior option.
Linus Tech Tips called out YouTube's new 30-second unskippable ads on the TV app, asking
"When will it be enough? Are we just going to go all the way back to cable TV with three-minute ad breaks? Can we not?"
@InfectedD_11@archimatiliztli@master1ous@kmcnam1 I think M3 support is close (according to their blog posts) but the GPU might take a while longer
M4 and M5 support is gonna take even longer because afaik they need to reverse engineer the SPTM to get anywhere with it
@CopticFelo@archimatiliztli@master1ous@kmcnam1 Asahi is primarily what I was referring to
Looking at their feature support table, most features (at least for my device) marked "TBA"
Maybe it will be worth it in a year, who knows 🤷♂️
@erayotuzdort34@Parydish27@CoolmanderShep1@kmcnam1 I blame Apple for choosing to use metal instead of vulkan, but the thing you really meant to say is that it's a terrible gaming platform which fair ig but it has nothing to do with freedom, you also can't game much on a 30 year old linux version but that doesn't make it unfree
@CopticFelo@Parydish27@CoolmanderShep1@kmcnam1 Freedom to play games, bro. If macOS were a good platform for games, I’m sure developers would adapt their games to it, as you can see from iOS. Apple doesn’t care about it, not the developers. Don’t blame millions of developers instead of one company.
@schteppe The people who scream "SKILL ISSUE" whenever the topic of memory safety comes up probably wrote 100s of lines of memory unsafe code in their entire career
@typememetics I mean it's a good language, so who cares?
I really don't get the hate on Rust, Who cares if the community behind it is woke, it's just a good language compared to the mess called "modern C++"
