In terms of “everybody knew,” the rumors I personally had heard were of the nature “he’s a manwhore constantly out getting drunk and carousing and obviously cheating on his wife.” Which is different and less actionable than what actually came out.

This has not been easy for me or the other women. I have so much respect for them for telling their stories. I shared mine publicly because I have a platform and resources that others may not—and I wanted to help validate their experiences. None of this is our fault. This is about an abuse of power. No one paid us to come forward. For those questioning the timing: I don’t live in California, and I have no stake in who becomes Governor. I’m a Democrat who wants this party to succeed. Just to be clear, here are my current beliefs about the Eric Swalwell story: -The rape allegation, while it could well be true, is not credible enough to reach the threshold of reporting, & without that all the other stuff isn’t a huge news story -His political career is over

Even if the *assault* allegations against Swalwell are false (and for the record I don't think they are), you've really gotta question the judgment of a married man having multiple affairs with 20-something staffers in a post-MeToo world. Just absolute dumbass, reckless behavior.

Andrew Cuomo's sexual harassment was known for a long time. It was deemed a "conspiracy theory" until the NY Dem machine needed it to make his COVID failures go away I think that's what happened with Eric Swalwell also. This probably was known, but it wasn't until the CA Dem machine wanted to thin out the primary herd that they dropped the story Wonder how many more sexual assault/harassment cases we haven't even heard of, because their political machine hasn't deemed it convenient to release that info

It’s really sad that these things needs to be said, but: -A person who is incapacitated by alcohol cannot legally consent. -Men in positions of trust & power should NOT be having sexual relationships with their staffers, law clerks, employees, subordinates, volunteers, or interns. -If you knew a person was bad, but it took public shame & media pressure in order for you to do the right thing & withdraw an endorsement, you lack integrity. -You don’t get to do bad things as an elected leader who represents all of us and then say “that’s a personal matter.” -All victims & survivors are different. Some report early, some report late, some don’t report at all. Some are afraid. Some aren’t. Some are loud. Some are quiet. Some still stay in a toxic relationship or bad situation, some leave after the first time. Some don’t even think they are victims. And some blame themselves. What you would do may not be what another would do. They still matter and have a right to be heard. -Congress has become a halfway house full of sexual predators, liars and hypocrites. I don’t care if you won an election or not, people who lack integrity do NOT represent the Hatami family no matter what your title is. We need to start prosecuting these criminal politicians - resigning, censure, etc. isn’t enough.

How about we don’t go after the innocent wife and child for this one…

I’ve covered Eric Swawell since he was a member of the Dublin City Council. Shortly after being elected to Congress in 2013, his behavior towards women was known by all levels of our local government and the Alameda County Democratic Party.
