@DeRushaJ @LaffyTaffy0112 The cost for who? The person working or some imagined figure that you aren't naming?

@LaffyTaffy0112 @Eric_MN_ I would not argue for that, but I think a case could be made for a tipped wage of $8 instead of $16. It's sort of a non-starter in MN so I'm not losing sleep over it- just pointing out the cost factor

I made a chart in my newsletter looking at minimum wage in an all-day restaurant with 10 servers x 12 shifts x 365 days a year - just shows how things add up.

@KSTP Hm, I wonder if the bloated budgets for slow to respond police departments are a factor?

With statewide property taxes rising 6.8% this year, there’s a bill making its way through the state legislature that would create a property tax task force. kstp.com/tracking-your-…

@Eric_MN_ No one gets $2.33/hr, if you're not making tips to get you to regular minimum wage the employer has to make up the difference

@emma_butthole The perceived usefulness of the product vs. the need of the companies offering the service are in a bit of a head-on collision. I also wonder if companies replacing entry level people are considering the loss of future value as workers gain experience.

It's always been my bet that AI's downfall will be people/companies getting priced out of using it. And it's finally starting to be a concern here

It's beginning: Company has been making everyone implement AI features into our products. My team launched an AI feature in our app last summer. We just got asked to move off the internal AI platform and find another solution to 'reduce token usage'

Wage theft is real theft, and workers deserve every dollar they earn. I created the first wage theft unit in the history of my office to make sure people get paid what they’re owed, to hold bad actors accountable, and we’ve already brought back hundreds of thousands of dollars to Minnesota workers.

Hasan Piker: “If you steal from the poor, you become rich. If you steal from the wealthy, you go to prison. There’s only one direction where you can do unlimited theft. Wage theft is the most consequential amount of theft that takes place in the United States of America”

@Eric_MN_ @MichaelH_MN Don't you freaking understand that if fully maximized the amount being paid in won't come close to the amount needed to be paid? There is no real constraint so it could need up to about a 15% tax.

@HillcrestCardCo I was in Stockholm in 2024 and on the third day way too many Americans were around. When I asked the front desk about it, they said people were coming from the US for a Taylor Swift concert because it cost less to see her in Sweden than in the US, even with the flights and hotel.

One of my family members has a good job and private insurance. He needs imaging and a surgical procedure. So far he's figured out that it would be cheaper to fly to Norway and stay there for almost a week to get it all done.
Financial Dystopia@financedystop

A round-trip flight from New York to Shanghai next month starts around $1,039, a 5-star hotel averages about $124–$138 a night, and an MRI in Shanghai is roughly $99–$164. That means you can do the whole trip for around $1,400. Plenty of Americans pay more than that for one MRI.

6 years of living in Texas and I've come to the conclusion that the no state income tax thing is basically a scam. The property taxes are so high that they negate any savings. We are still paying as many taxes in Texas as we would in California. You save on gas I guess.

The idea of “low-tax” red states is a myth. Lower-income and working-class people pay higher taxes in Texas than in California. Middle-class people pay about the same in both states. Rich people pay much lower taxes in Texas.
