Translating what happened on Senate floor tonight: @JonHusted called the @SenateDems bluff. @chuckschumer said yesterday that Democrats aren’t opposed to Voter ID. Just the “other” parts of the SAVE America Act. So @JonHusted introduced a stand-alone bill with JUST the voter ID. asked for unanimous consent to advance the bill and…@SenateDems objected. The Senate moved to proceed to the House passed SAVE America Act. The Senate is now "on" the bill. Thune filled the amendment tree with the policy changes requested by POTUS (ban on child trans surgeries, protecting sports, etc). This blocks Democrats from being able to offer amendments. Now we debate. It's not technically a talking filibuster (this method requires cloture), but the fact that Thune didn't file cloture and end debate immediately makes this the most open and deliberative Senate floor in maybe a decade. Conservatives have asked the Senate GOP for a process. This is the start of it. Hopefully we will see them take it seriously: quorum calls, amendment votes (maybe even some Dem amendments), negotiation, and robust and prolonged debate. At some point there will be a cloture vote (60v), which I assume fails. That's fine -- as long as the GOP is prepared to continue the process. Return to the bill, file cloture again, keep working, keep talking. The Senate makes time for what it prioritizes.

We often use the nationality to describe the government/those in charge. It doesn't apply to all persons living in the nation.

Joe Kent is a man of integrity. Whether you agree with him or not, he is acting on his conscience. He is a highly decorated combat veteran and Gold Star husband whose wife was killed in action in Syria in 2019. He has every right to feel the way he does. Thank you for your service @joekent16jan19
