The Wide-9 attack defense in NFL was invented by GW & his DL coach Jim Washburn 28 years ago in TEN when they drafted Jevon Kearse. Schwartz was a QC on that staff. Then we took it the WAS, Rudy was a QC on that staff. Then Rudy got with Pete Carroll tree where they were running Wide 9 attack front with Carroll L.O.B. Match-3 & Cov 1 behind it. Then Saleh & Rudy got with Kocurek (DL coach at SF who played DL in scheme for Washburn & cut his teeth as asst DL coach for him). Rudy has spent his entire career in this system through its various evolutions. What changes from play caller to play caller in system is 1) what coverages they decide to play behind the front, 2) what frequency mix of them, and 3) how often & how many of the blitzes they use or don’t use. Rudy is very smart & hard working, players love him, and he’s developed all-pro players at LB & DB as their position coach each place he’s been.
