I was born and raised in Anchorage. When I got to Williams College (a "little Ivy") in 1982, some girl from Long Island seriously asked me if we lived in igloos. A girl from New Jersey asked a friend from Portland, OR, if "they had trouble with the Indians out there". Now, those were other 18-year-olds, but never underestimate how blinkered and provincial East Coast Americans are about the rest of the country.

I live on a remote fishing island in Alaska and have worked in some of the most remote Arctic villages. This is bullshit and everyone who actually lives here knows it.

Lisa Murkowski has been on the Senate floor for over ten minutes. As a member of the GOP, she's doing an EXCELLENT job of advocating for the SAVE America Act… oh wait... no, she's not. She's explaining why it's apparently TOO HARD to overcome logistical and geographical issues because of sled dogs and other things far less important than our nation's sovereignty. The amount of effort these people put into opposing something as simple as voter ID is astronomical and only proves how afraid they are.
