@UteOutsider The biggest difference to me is that BYU has a staff of guys who have run the same defense under Jay (and a bunch of them already had coordinator experience anyway). Continuity matters. Since Beck wasn't there long, they are closer to starting from scratch with a new system.

Maybe I’m biased but I feel a lot more comfortable replacing Jason Beck than I would feel replacing Jay Hill as a BYU fan. And again, maybe I’m biased, but I think Jay Hill saved Kalani’s job. Interested to see who of the two teams comes out in better shape.
