Can anyone think of a game where the twist is YOU are the final boss? Only one that comes to mind for me is Shadow of the Colossus. (Though the bad ending to Resident Evil 9 totally missed an opportunity there)

It makes sense that the Star Fox franchise would appear in Super Mario Galaxy if Nintendo goes on to make other movie franchises because this would be the only chance for Star Fox to do a crossover because of space. Which makes me wonder if Samus will get a cameo...

@theWellRedMage Yep, you're right. Comes down to how people define things. Usually based on their observations and experience comparing one thing to another. People look at RPGs as either gameplay or mechanics of game design. Neither is wrong but affects how people define games.

@Tenmar It also seems like it's uniquely an RPG problem. I've never heard people debate platformers like this or suggest that, like, Tetris is a platformer.

@theWellRedMage Yeah, that's why bar talk questions like this can get bogged down because people often have their own definitions instead of a shared one that's specific. That or they try to be performative to sound like an authority figure on social media. I just enjoy the game and design.

@Tenmar If all games are role playing games because you are playing a role, then there's no more question or conversation. RPG would mean anything and everything and nothing.

@thaonlyjonathan @yoxics The rule is distracted driving. In other words, as long as the driver is not reading twitch chat or engaging in distracting activities and you are focused on driving, it is fine. Basically, follow the laws of the road. Which sadly, many people just ignore.

@avataryaya_ I mean, parents did look at their kids as crazy for wanting a console for 100 or 200 dollars as well. The main difference today is that wages have been stagnant for over 70 years that modern wages can't keep up with modern costs.

@johniibo I've never been a fan of open world games. Often it's just excess fat that gets in the way of the core gameplay loop and the story. Open world also often results in game design becoming a task list of chores that are there to waste time. I see it often as lazy game design.

@stardream61016 Having worked at a game store, this was very common to wrap a product when it didn't have a box and use plastic wrap. Companies keep things lean by keeping inventory to a minimum which is why used inventory gets wrapped instead of being put into a box.

@Wyndreya That said, as a freelancer business. You should be investing your blue chip clients to a private channel so they can request for your work directly without the middle man.

@Wyndreya I don't see the hate on VGen. What I see is the continued hate where the scam industry knows it can steal money from both customers and freelancers using middle man service websites which is how a lot of business is done now due to companies outsourcing labor.

Can we not discourage people from using VGen? Some of us are doing better on the site than without, and constantly pointing out some flaws with VGen makes getting clients more and more difficult. I understand not liking some aspects of the site, that's fine, but projecting to others and making it seem worse than what it is? That ain't right. Currently, I'm able to afford my medications, buy food, and have my basic needs met simply because of VGen. Others might not have that luck, and it isn't fair to those who have found some level of success through VGen to have lose out on clients just because of those being vocal about the negative. There are issues with VGen, but keep in mind it only released in recent years. It still needs time to grow. The team is still quite small. This isn't a major corporation with a huge budget or thousands of employees. There will be flaws because they're only human. I say all this because the VGen hate is so unfair to those who don't have any problems.

@VOLGARR @AI_EmeraldApple I remember trying to get Ending B and A in the first Volgarr. I couldn't do it. I always messed up in one of the stages. Good times. Some games take time and practice that people don't have the time to practice.

@AI_EmeraldApple This was a primary complaint of the Volgarr games I made. My response is, while gaming IS for everyone - not EVERY game is for everyone. My games were for a specific audience and filled a specific need that was/is not being filled. Crimson Desert is GREAT.

Game journalists are still complaining that Crimson Desert is too hard, and it needs a "difficulty slider". The game is designed to be played as is, and it's up to the player to adjust the difficulty of the game with the use of consumables, resurrection items, and upgrades. Don't have great reflexes? Then farm up a ton of consumables and spam them during the fight to make it easier, and upgrade weapons and gear. Too many people are used to games with so many difficulty settings where it's just a faceroll at the lowest difficulty, also known as "journalist mode", which allows journalists to beat the game. In the 90's, and many games of the 2000's did not have difficulty sliders, and were designed to be experienced as is.

@james_ferrari @noritar0 Because very little in terms of practical knowledge is taught anymore. It's important to teach people HOW to do everything. Be it social skills like basic manners or productive skills like drawing, workshop, or writing. Scam industry is the second largest industry in the world

@DanlucHeng @UFOkiyo Scam industry is a trillion dollar industry now. It hasn't been some small time individual bad actors for decades. Can't just blame a person for making a mistake as more freelancers rely on middleman services to conduct business and allow posting phishing links.
