When seconds count, response times matter. A recent CBC News report highlights growing concerns around fire response times in Halifax — concerns our data has shown for years. In 2024, HRFE met its own response-time standard only 54.5% of the time, a standard already well below accepted fire service benchmarks. At the same time, call volume continues to rise. In 2025, Halifax fire fighters responded to nearly 20,000 incidents, placing increasing strain on a system that hasn’t grown with the city it protects. This isn’t about blame. It’s about public safety. This evening, #hfxfirefighters from Station 38 in Middle Musquodoboit were called to a car fire in Elderbank. Having Halifax Professional Fire Fighters in stations across our municipality matters — it means when the call comes in, our members are ready to respond quickly and keep our communities safe. Last fall, Station 38 was staffed 24/7/365, enhancing public safety for residents throughout the Musquodoboit Valley. Every response counts. Every station matters.

Fire crews responded to reports of smoke in the woods at Shannon Park behind the fenced off area. They quickly extinguished an unattended campfire and heavily soaked down the area.
