@shiten_room Now that I can afford stuff, I'm buying it online when it's available. If I had the room, I'd happily purchase Japanese media and keep it boxed up until I can speak the language, but I sadly don't, and so my options are somewhat limited legally

@shiten_room One series I love has a strong community backing, releasing an English fan translation a year ahead of the English release, with community spreadsheets of errors and corrections, and offers a fixed book. It almost feels like you pay for a worse product

I recently asked overseas manga readers about the difficulties they face when trying to access Japanese manga. Here is a summary of what they shared. 1:High prices caused by international shipping and import taxes 2:Lack of local bookstores in many regions 3:Translation issues ・Slow translation pace (often 1–2 years behind) ・Series being dropped midway ・Mistranslations, excessive localization, and distrust of altered content ・Limited language availability 4:Purchasing barriers ・Poor usability of Japanese websites (e.g., Japanese credit cards required) ・VPN requirements ・Apps unavailable in certain countries 5:Dissatisfaction with current digital services ・Subscription models do not provide true ownership ・Fear of losing access if a service shuts down ・Fragmented platforms and single-chapter sales (Some readers express a preference for models similar to Netflix or Steam.) 6:Licensing issues ・Rights being sold country by country ・Multiple intermediaries ・Limited language coverage 7:Release timing gaps between languages My impression is that overseas readers are not primarily concerned with price, but rather with the fragmentation of translation, distribution, payment systems, and licensing that ultimately makes access itself structurally difficult. Perhaps this is why integrated international platforms, such as Netflix or Steam, are often mentioned as desirable models.

@Falcomer @Mojang The compromise here would really need to come from console manfs, the only reason this stuff needs to exist is because of console manfs having required that platforms conform to certain things, such as moderation, in which mojangs partnerships with servers *is* the compromise

A lot of Minecraft servers took advantage of Realms to allow for easy joining of their networks via the "transferPlayer" method This probably did cause an overload to the Realms infrastructure, but, it was very convenient. I wonder if @Mojang have plans for a compromise (I doubt it) This, alongside the XBox friend system was a really nice way for Bedrock players to join Java servers, and it's a shame that it's no longer possible. Trying to get people to download the Bedrock Together app is tedious, and is confusing to the more younger audience

@Hasmatix @ThisIsAnto_ @BackersGamesF Epic is a CEF (Chromium Embedded Framework) application; they might not just have their website UI inside of a frame like the Steam store does, but the entire Epic launcher is a glorified web browser

Tim, i will be honest. People choose to buy more from Steam because they know they can rely on it. If you get hacked or something happens to your account, you just go to talk with the support and your problem will be solved. Epic's support is useless most of the time or it will take them a whole month to solve your problem Also, Steam is faster with more features (for years).. Like the Workshop, Communities, Groups, fully customizable profile with a better XP system etc. The whole thing feels way better ..and the most important thing. Bugs. The launcher may not have many problems, but the main game that 90%+ of your users play does. Fortnite has so many problems right now. From the Lobby to the Emote Wheel to the Game with insane fps drops and crazy ping increases. Atp i can't enjoy playing this game anymore.

Epic and Steam compete for each customer and each sale. On some transactions, Epic wins. On more, Steam wins. But one thing is constant on every transaction: gamers and developers win by having more options and better deals.

@Pirat_Nation Meanwhile, the epic app just feels clunky, no user reviews, there is no link from DLC to find the base game, no patch notes, no dev blog, no community. I have a library on both, but steam is more available, more accessible, and so is the obvious choice for any purchases.

@Pirat_Nation Got a free game on Epic 3 years ago; finally installed it on my Steam Deck in December. During the prologue, realised I was going to love this experience, and immediately purchased it on Steam so I'd have working cloud saves and not have to deal with alt middleware launchers.

According to New Blood's CEO, Epic Games Store’s free giveaways cause a huge spike in Steam sales. The game sold 200% more copies on Steam that day than usual. He called the EGS giveaway great advertising for Steam sales.

@Kneon It's weird because I just started to see more LTT videos in my feed, but it will also jump from some recent docu-type videos into some 3-5 year old random LTT video; the airline TV series and a few older creators popped back, otherwise, a lot of stuff I have little interest in

@ClownfishTVcom I feel that YT has generally taken over 90% of what my TV usage would of been from a decade ago; background noise. YT has a wider range of stuff to select from, from media and industry news and musings, to random documentaries about topics I didn't know I needed an hour of

@ClownfishTVcom I remember CN being the go-to TV channel when it was stormy outside. Eventually, it turned into a few good shows I'd run to watch until the point it was just 'eh. Just looked at the TV guide; no wonder why nobody cares to watch

@Dionsol @CNviolations Grandfather had one and used it fairly often for carving turkeys and other roasted meats. I remember trying to use it myself. It wasn't too bad; definitely one of those tools you need to get experience with, so, I can understand why many would be uncomfortable with one

Short answer is it never truly worked as advertised. My grandparents And my parents both had one. And it just had to be the right condition in order for it to work correctly. And of course cleaning the damn thing was a pain in the ass. And as others have said the cord was always getting in the way. if you weren't paying attention you would cut the cord and get shocked. Bottom line there was too many down sides and very little upside. So the knife manufacturers pivoted and marketed other knives instead. Ginsu and all those other things.

@nemanjan00 @eevblog This. I feel that it's also just the nature of it being a relatively safe movie that always played around this time of the year; I remember many occasions supping a cup of hot chocolate wrapped up with the lit up Xmas tree in the background with an HP movie on the telly

@geerlingguy @jgavinray The issue is that a lot of people prefer the async nature of platforms like Discord, and so while a project I do stuff for hosts a forum, the reality is that a lot of knowledge ends up lost on Discord, and most 'solutions' for that are re-inventing forums and killing async chat

@jgavinray OrcaSlicer, in this case :) (No shade on the project or community! Just frustrated when this happens, because the questions I have would not require *any* maintainer bandwidth if they were on any kind of public site and not tucked inside 500 channels on a Discord)

A Discord is not a substitute for a website. Or a support forum. Or an issue queue. Or really pretty much anything besides maybe IRC or Matrix if you're not worried about the openness of the chat platform.

@HTMISTERK Both. To some degree, it's a time thing, breakfast club lets people drop their kids off earlier so they can go do stuff, which saves time for having to deal with breakfast. But, for impoverished areas, breakfast clubs are important for providing a safe meal early in the day.

Are breakfast clubs set up to feed children or provide childcare before school? Seems to me the main reason is the childcare but the main focus of responses seems to be on the food.
