Ref the serious assaults on rail staff last night. The report I've seen states that three men were arrested by the civil police, handed over to BTP once they arrived - the latter taking their details and "letting them go".

@RPMarks @peopledisplacer @chriscollins462 I don’t think mentioning it in training (classroom) is pointless. They have enough to think about early on. If they are interested they can ask in the messroom if anyone wants to talk about it. But few do.

@peopledisplacer @chriscollins462 I've been giving this a lot of thought recently. Perhaps we should be covering fatalities in driver training? Incidents certainly seem to be on the increase.

This person is crazy. Every driver is trained to deal with suicides, but no-one is trained to actively kill people for a living. Genuinely never seen such a demented opinion on this app.

@otisdriftwood99 @UU_Ess_Pee There is also no actual definition of DISP on a diagram at most TOCs - the publicly owned ones via FOI confirm there's no actual rule or instruction relating to that activity - and it's word of mouth via training, but again, only through custom and practice.

The general public (and spotters) usually don’t understand like they think they do. We generally don’t know what the train we bring in is booked to do after we leave it. It could be due an attachment, or the crew for that service might not turn up for any number of reasons.
Craig@CraigTheTrain

@AnonSocials @rose_phil @railnigel I'm not with Northern but that is 100% untrue on other TOCs.

Had to kill 2 hours in Stevenage because my advance single tied me to one specific train… despite two earlier ones being half empty. Bit of a shame, @LNER — feels like something that should be fixable. @rorysutherland literally wrote the solution.

@Mikey1878 @LNER @rorysutherland Once, minding my own business on a platform, I was told "You can't board this train, your ticket's only valid after 9:30, this train is the 9:26". Me: "You're standing UNDER A CLOCK that says 09:34!" Him: "This is the 9:26!" Me: "I'm a lawyer, I'll board and see what happens."

@UU_Ess_Pee We always get people queuing at doors of trains that aren’t attached to the one not on the block. It’s a right pain when someone’s left the doors open. Then it’s our fault for opening the doors. Pidgin and statue.

Absolutely. And then there’s issues with us not actually knowing what the plan is with that train once we’ve brought it in. If it’s booked to go out in service, what if that crew doesn’t turn up? We’d be on X having other discussions. Can’t fucking win 🙄
Milly Tant@peopledisplacer

@CraigTheTrain @AnonSocials @rose_phil @railnigel If we bring in empties and I not the driver taking it out again, I don't release the doors. The next driver who'll be in charge of that service will do it during their mobilisation. It's best to leave it locked, passengers have a habit of getting on trains that are going nowhere.

@ChimeWhistle Bottled water for train crew? What? We have filtered weather from machines we never get to see the maintenance schedule for and legionaries is a high possibility. What companies are giving out bottles!!! Posh bastards

I've had numerous drivers DM me (NO NAMES ever published) over the weekend, saying that the company has also scrapped the supply of bottled water for train crew. The penny pinching is getting a bit desperate.
Chris Grose 🦒@ChrisGrose2

@ChimeWhistle I worked in an office where management did this. They reappeared a few months later because in leaving interviews people said you care so little for staff you have even got rid of the coffee machine Coffee machine was a lot cheaper than the recruitment agent to replace staff!

@phv2022 @but_cyclists In an ideal world no, you wouldn't want to pick up on a zigzag but we have to deal with buses, pedestrians, cycle lanes, etc. It's a really tricky juggling act to try and get it right and still earn a living

I've been contacted by a number of concerned crew, following the issuing of an internal email, regarding ten reports of rough riding in and around one location. Drivers have been told to stop reporting it,unless they have seen a broken rail or further deterioration in ride quality.

Most stupid shit I've read all day.
Anon Socials@AnonSocials

@UU_Ess_Pee The companies are desperately trying to change that culture. It's narrow minded, heavily unionised depots which resist changes that benefit customers. Look at the Lumo drivers - happy depots, with customers put first and duties of a driver reflect that ethos.
