Rather than call time on boys being part of a girls’ organisation - which was never supposed to happen - Guardian columnist Zoe Williams suggests the 'obvious solution' was a name change. 🙄 Quite apart from her dreadful “gender-neutral” name suggestions - KidGuiding or RangersRainbow - this isn’t how charities work. Girlguiding isn’t just a brand. It’s a charity with a defined purpose: for girls. You can’t simply rename it and carry on as before. Changing that purpose would require formal processes, consultation, and potentially regulatory approval. In other words - not a quick fix. Not a rebrand. @cmclymer One trans identified man taking a place from a woman is one too many, this ban is both necessary and fair.

At the first women-inclusive Olympics in Paris in 1900, 22 women competed. Since then, about 62,000 women total have competed in the Summer and Winter Olympics. Only one of them was a trans woman. Just one. She didn't medal. She didn't even rank. One trans woman out of 62,000 women athletes over 126 years of the modern Olympics, and no medals. This ban on trans women isn't about fairness. It never was. It's about politics and pandering. It's about the IOC needing to get in good with the Trump admin. It's about a needless "solution" to a problem that didn't exist in the first place, and history will not be kind to this embarrassing abdication of morality and ethics.

@cmclymer @peckerwindsor If Girlguides wants to remain a girls only organisation, they can’t legally allow boys to join, including boys who say they are girls. They are however perfectly entitled to change their policy and become mixed sex and I think that’s the point where you are confused.

The Guides--UK's version of the Girl Scouts--openly welcomed trans girls for the past decade. This decision is solely because of pressure brought by transphobes who are obsessed with schadenfreude against kids they don't care about and don't want to know. That's all it is.

The reason I'm a passionate trans rights advocate and campaigner is because most of my Trans friends don't want to have to be, they simply want to live their lives free of persecution, and I don't think that's too much to ask.
