@ralpha060461 There was a 10-1 scoreline in the ‘82 World Cup between Hungary and El Salvador when there was only 24 teams in the competition.

When a team gets hammered 7-1 in a World Cup tournament you have to ask whether increasing the number of teams in the tournament was really a good idea

@andyroo1711 @donmcgowan Singing is a personal choice if anyone chooses to sing it’s their choice, it’s not mandatory. By not singing they are simply following etiquette and protocol. Only wet wipes get upset about people not singing by the looks of it.

@stevemor123 @donmcgowan Tell that to the Scots, Brazil, Morocco and Australia who do not seem to have a problem with that. The thing that does surprise me is that having taken the knee for an American gangster that they did not take the knee for Henry Nowak?

What day this week do we expect Nigel Farage to start weaponising the England football team? We all know it's coming, I'm just curious as to when it might.

@andyroo1711 @donmcgowan You do know that it is perfectly good etiquette not to sing along to the National anthem and good protocol as long as you remain quiet and face the flag if it is on display. Singing is purely optional, right?

@donmcgowan What a djckhead you are Don. We do have a bunch of players who seem incapable of singing the National Anthem. They don’t have a problem picking up the wages though.

@joemichalczuk Do yourself a favour, switch on as the teams come out, make a brew at half time and switch off on the final whistle. The benefits are twofold. You don’t care where they are and you don’t have to listen to their crap.

Some previous BBC studios. Just watched their Canada coverage & absolute bullshit it makes no difference where they present it from. It was just awful being in a VR studio. It’s the World Cup: the biggest sporting event every 4 years - the national broadcaster should be there.

@GambleEveryday @_ben_gs Why is it only football fans that cry about not singing the National anthem? Not singing along shows etiquette and respect, it’s not an act of treason.

Is it just me or is it absolutely baffling that some English people don’t support the England national football team?

@undisputed104 ‘Soccer’ is a posh boy slang term invented at Oxford University and commonly used in England up until the 1960’s until it fell out of favour. So we’ve called it that before and you copied it when the US started playing properly when the word was fashionable.

@StevePenk Learnt many years ago to turn on just as the teams are entering the field, make sure I’m the one making the brew at half time and switch off just after the final whistle. That goes for every game, there’s so much time to fill with nonsense.

Do you remember in previous World Cup competitions when every shop was selling England flags and banners, and every other car had flags flying from little plastic flagpoles, and there were always a number of houses festooned in the cross of St George. This year? Nothing.

@RasmusJarlov It’s an old English slang word for Association Football created by University students at Oxford. It’s a traditional English word dating back to the 1800’s and it ain’t that deep.

@BPete1970 @thepoacher7 @CornedbeefstRed Remember Chelsea coming to OT in ‘77-78 and filling the entire scoreboard standing, which was unusual back then for a team that wasn’t local. They sneaked a 1-0 win as well.

@thepoacher7 @CornedbeefstRed To be honest although we didn’t play them all the time I felt Chelsea were the best London club re bringing decent followings to our place. Arsenal & Spurs fluctuated a lot depending on how they doing in the league. The others weren’t worth talking about

Manchester Derby 1989. Remember it well. Kicked off everywhere inside and outside. Game stopped whilst they escorted United fans to the away end who were met with a round of applause. The scoreline let us down but I still loved it. #MUFC
