@tomandmartys Stop saying "ball knower". It's the biggest douche canoe saying of all time for any sport.

Masters watch parties are tricky. Gotta be willing to hurt some feelings. Because unlike say a Super Bowl Watch Party where all are welcome, I want to watch Masters Sunday with ball knowers only. I’m perfectly willing to make small talk, give a shit about the ads, etc during the Super Bowl. But we keep our circle tight for the Masters because it is ALL about the golf.

What's the worst way you've seen someone quit a job? One of my favorites: A guy wrote a program that texted his boss every second until he got paid... with a 200MB picture attached.

I’m not defending Tiger Woods, his accident was clearly his fault & he deserves to be held accountable, but based on this version of the body cam footage of his arrest, it sure seems like a non celebrity might’ve not been charged with a DUI. He seems not as out of it as expected.

Australian Special Forces are not the only ones The Australian press is reporting that around 90 members of the Special Air Service Regiment (SAS), Australia’s main special forces unit, were quietly sent to the Middle East about two weeks ago. It is believed the contingent is operating out of Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates, on standby in case the war between the US/Israel and Iran escalates further. The government of Anthony Albanese insists that the mission is purely defensive, focused on protecting the approximately 115,000 Australians still in the region. Nobody buys that 90 elite operators were sent just to protect 115,000 civilians. And the story doesn’t stop there. In addition to the special forces, Australia also sent an E-7A Wedgetail surveillance aircraft and AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles to the Emirates. When you start sending air-to-air missiles and an early-warning aircraft that shares data via Link 16 with American forces in the region, it becomes very hard to swallow the “purely defensive” narrative. This is an unofficial entry into the war, no matter how much they deny it. But the Australians are not alone in this. The United Kingdom, despite denying any plans for a ground invasion of Iran, has increased its total contingent in the region to around 1,000 troops. Reports indicate that Royal Marines commandos are being used in several Gulf countries. It’s the same old pattern: official denial followed by discreet action. This is nothing new. A 2023 report already showed that British special forces (SAS and SBS) have secretly operated in at least 19 countries over the past 12 years, including Syria (supporting rebels since 2012), Yemen, Libya, and even Ukraine. @Cackalacman I think we got stuck in a sort of circular thinking with lengthening. Back in the day they thought it would fix the ‘problem’ and when the guys just got faster they lengthen again thinking ‘it will surely work this time!’ 🔁 funny thing is it can be fixed just by different mowing

Why anything? It’s the architecture of the course. Bubba happens to hit a big fade. Always has. Loves working the golf ball and being creative. The artistics of golf. He played to his strengths. We act like that is an easy shot. That shot is a risk/reward shot. I’ve never bought into the mentality we need to “fix” everything. That’s how we got to this point. Where a 285 guy isn’t even really competitive anymore at most courses. Moving tee boxes and lengthening courses has done nothing but make the game a bomber’s game. No diff than exit velocity in baseball. I’m not opposed to chasing speed. The idea that all things need fixed has done more harm than good and it started in the 00’s with course re-design. Redesigned the wrong way, IMO. If you are going to make a golf course longer and reward long guys. Leave creativity around to reward guys with that talent. Instead we’ve rewarded guys like Bryson and Rory and taken the game away from guy like Bubba. Narrow fairways, well placed bunkers, trees that block you out if you miss to one side, grow the grass up in places. Quit making them longer.

Great work by the RNZAF’s 62 Space Operations Squadron and Defence Science and Technology Team last night helping to track the progress of Artemis 2 overnight. Safety of human space flight is an important part of the team’s mission and the high accuracy of our NZ made Space telescope is proving to be highly valued by partners. @ChrisPenknz @NZDefenceForce @MFATNZ @NewZealandMFA

Really excited to play my first round today with my new counter balanced LAB DF3! Finally un torqued myself and I don’t think I’ll ever go back. Lots of people asking why I switched away from the trusty blade… my club held a fitting event and I got to experience “the revealer” in person and wow was it eye opening. My Scotty was putting so much torque into my hands, causing stress, fatigue, early onset arthritis, low T, marriage issues, and much more. I’ve finally come to the light and look forward to shooting lower scores! Untorque yourself!

Construction has begun on Qiddiya Speed Park's elevated corner, which will be as high as a 20 storey building when finished 😮 The circuit is planned to host the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix from 2028 onwards, replacing the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.

🔥PSA - friendly reminder on how math works; If I pay $500 for a new Scotty and then trick it out like any of these. Then throw on my $250-$300 customization fee, the total cost to you will not be $500, it will be $750-$800, even if you are a wealthy banker who has 3 private memberships and will “send me dozens of new clients”. Just an fyi, I make about $10/hour on these customizations. lol. I’m retired, not feeding anybody, but I’m not gonna lose money. Business 101

There is a passage in The Two Towers which is arguably among the most important across the books. Frodo and Sam are asleep outside the entrance to Shelob's lair when Smeagol sidles up to Frodo. Tolkien writes that anyone who saw him would have thought was just a very tired old hobbit. He is written in such affectionate terms here. It is clear that in this moment Smeagol was very close to embracing the Good. But Sam wakes up, assumes the worst about his intentions, and that's that. Smeagol was killed in that moment and Gollum was what remained. The movies could and should have included this scene. It would have added SO MUCH depth to the already deep on screen character of Smeagol/Gollum. We all wrestle with the good and evil in our own hearts. Not everyone wins that match. That is the lesson of Gollum in the books and movies alike.
