I have to spend $953 dollars by the end of the year to maintain my Platinum status on Delta Airlines. This sounds like a challenge. Game on.

@druinok Same problem! I now have things in 15 different electronic folders and sub folders. This year I’m going old school — putting every resource into my 3 ring binders in page protectors. It’s still in my electronic week to week, but I’ll also have it in my folders by topic. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I need a better way to organize ideas, tasks, & activities for various lessons/chapters... I've tried electronic & I always forget it exists - out of sight, out of mind? Tried paper & that works ok, but maybe need to organize it better? What do you do? #mtbos #iteachmath

@TEastmanMetzler Technically true. Seems mostly like people 15-20 years in as opposed to those nearing retirement . However the building doesn't pay us, the district does. Our payroll doesn't help or hurt building admin

@educator4ever36 Actually, very few. But most of my misbehaviors are students’ inability to control their mouth or body. Typical 14 yo stuff. My IEP/504 Ss need more guidance and redirection, but they’re not distracting the class.

Educators - what percentage of the class misbehaviors you face are done by a student on an IEP or 504? We must face some really uncomfortable truths if we want to get our classrooms back to an atmosphere for learning.

@edtechmathteach @teachbetterteam Julie Ann: I’d love to hear how you do this in the HS math setting. Seems like a lot of independent learning, and my Ss are…not accustomed to that. Can you share your experience?

When my kids were struggling to learn the way I had always taught, I completely pivoted & implemented the GRID method by the @teachbetterteam and it was the best move I ever made.

@dukecannonbaby @sage_stage You can circulate, and stop in to encourage and help. Yet some students will pretend while you’re there, but continue off task and turn nothing in at the end of the period. Choices.

@sage_stage Do not believe you. Otherwise you’re telling us they sat in your class under your supervision and did none of the class assignments. Are you not watching your students?

@MidCenturyProud @sage_stage @lkaneshiki I was struck by the same thing. “My side of the story” sounds like there was a dispute of some kind. Now we are not even going to believe the teacher, like you somehow set this child up for your own purposes.😢

@sage_stage @lkaneshiki Wild that admin is asking for “your side of the story,” as tho you & the student are peers. Why wouldn’t a #teacher - a seasoned teacher in good standing - just normally be believed? ? And, even tho I support min graded of 50, this would be a zero because of the #=cheating.

Student is taking a test with a cheat sheet out on their desk. I end the test for her. She immediately claims she didn't even know she had a cheat sheet on her desk and that she didn't use it. Then she starts sending me email after email. Complains to the AP, then guess what?

@sage_stage One thing that helps speed it along is no phone access on the trip. But I speak to those taking a long time to make sure it’s sincere. If so 🤷🏼‍♀️. Most of our teachers limit to 3 trips a quarter, which means they gotta go during my class.

Is it fair to establish the bathroom pass line by using the order they answer the bell ringer in or whether they answer it at all? Is it fair to move someone to the end of the line if they have taken excessively long passes in the past, making others wait longer?

@Dsrussosusan @MrsSheehanMath @kathyhen_ If you get some biscuits from the refrigerated section and cut them up, you can accomplish a similar thing — it’ll be a little bit bit like a monkey bread. Just looking at those pictures I can smell how amazing it smells.

How do I get through hours of test grading on Sunday morning? Make sourdough apple fritter focaccia while grading 🤤😍 And yes, it’s amazing.

@MrsSheehanMath I have a few students like that. I believe it is the result of pressure to get a very fast answer in prior grades. I work with them on small white boards, and don’t allow them to say anything. They have to write down what they’re doing. No guessing. And no answers, just steps.

Tips for working with students who refuse to think through problems and just shout out random numbers when you’re working with them? 🙃 I’m trying to discern if this is just math anxiety or if there is a bigger picture issue here (like a learning disability). #mtbos #iteachmath

@offgridteacher I definitely would not start with some thing as strong as broccoli or brussels sprouts. I gave things that were easy to eat like carrots and peas and then other things that they asked for when they saw us eating them. It takes time.

Other mom: “I just have the baby eat what we’re eating. Yesterday it was steamed broccoli.” I went home, realized I had broccoli, and steamed it. Baby girl gave me the equivalent of “NO!” I think there is still broccoli on the wall. How do you get a baby to like food? 🤔

@MrsSheehanMath Older I get, less formulas my students see. It’s “how far did it move on the y axis/how far did it move along the x”. I show them the formulas later, in case they see it on a standardized test, but the only 1 we straight up memorize is Pyth Thm.

Hot take: the slope formula is unnecessarily complicated and may students can calculate differences in their heads or with counting tools much faster and with way less mistakes 🙃 Side note: I never thought about this until this week. Year 11. WHY. #mtbos #iteachmath
