After a long stretch focused on writing, I’m sharing a new video 🎥 How to Write Historical Context Into Family Histories (Without Making Things Up) It began as a coaching call idea about common struggles. Turns out, it needed to be said. ▶️ youtu.be/JnkuaRZYzjs

I am learning something new... how to use an embroidery machine. It's going well except when I need to thread a needle. There is an auto threader that works 1/2 the time. I can do it myself 1/2 of the times the threader doesn't work. Guess which portion im in right now?

@kariwarburton And do you see this jacket? It documents all the times I have been afraid to be thrown over my husband's back and let him run us through an obstacle course. What you can't see are the amazing friends i have made and places I've been when I pushed through the fear.

@kariwarburton We can be afraid of so many things. I like the John Daloney podcast and he says our fears are trying to keep us safe. But that doesn't make it right. Safety keeps you from doing hard things that bring us joy. So... the only way to overcome fear is to go through it.

Are there any mothers on here who experienced being absolutely terrified of giving birth, doctors, and needles before being pregnant and if so how did you overcome it? I’m not pregnant but the thought of being pregnant scares me

@Latterdaytruth Small yard means small yard work chores. Which adds to time even more time with family by cutting an hour per day from commuting. And if you live near a park, bonus.

If you had to choose…. 1) 1 hour commute with a big yard 2) 30 minute commute with a tiny yard

@MomOfDDSquared @cboyack Glad your schools are pretty good. Ours are trash. So we made tough decisions, sacrificed a lot & saved a ton. We will retire in 2 years. Granted, we put this plan into action 25 years ago, but it's possible to have retirement $$ with a single income homeschooling family.

A parent who sacrifices income to teach their child at home is making the most expensive investment in education possible. And it pays off.

@Shirinsmit In the early years there are many sacrifices, but then you hit your stride and it all works out. Now, my husband and i travel the world to participate in a race where he throws me over his shoulders and runs through obstacles courses. This life is possible. It takes effort

@Shirinsmit Cozy homemaker life, nope. But i have worked as a mom in the home for 25 years. My last kiddo will be graduating in 2 years and I've never had to work. Being a single income home is a choice. You pick your dream and reverse engineer how to get there.

@flowidealism The current curriculum thinks annotating msyandry, racism and micro agreesions of Shakespeare is more important than understanding the message and entertainment value of the words. So l, yeah, im not impressed with the schools that my kids attended for 1 or 2 classes.

We are very focused on developing student awareness of how well they understand what they are reading. Not in a vague, feel-good way. In a specific, operational way. Do you understand this sentence or not? Can you tell me which part you understand and which part you do not? Can you formulate a question that would help you close the gap? These are skills that most schools never name and never teach. Students go through twelve years of education and never learn to monitor their own comprehension in real time. In my classrooms, they practice it every day. By the end of the year, they do it automatically.

@CovenantBeacon My husband is a life-long member. My parents were converts. I was reactivated 30 years ago. It's hard to believe i hit that number. But it started one year and one day at a time. Congratulations and keep going. Oh and journal along the way.

Today marks 9 years since I entered the waters of baptism and took a crucial step forward in my journey towards Christ. It is still the best decision I’ve ever made in my life!

@cboyack For instance, a driving test says the yellow light means stop not slow down or use caution. But said teen notices that few folllow the supposed right answer on the test. So, give the answer to pass said test. Then, observe the world to see what is in practice.

@cboyack I have taught them to learn things they are interested in without me being their teacher. Then i taught them sometimes you have to give answers you dont agree with to just pass the test to get to what you want

@teachthemx3 I have home schooled 5 kids, 2 attended public school for a class or 2. None of what you shared is their experience. But they are aware AI is going to affect the job market so adapt and choose wisely.

One of the main issues I see in the classroom is convincing students that learning still matters. Students are being told: AI will think. UBI will pay. Then they watch classmates put in little to no effort and pass anyway. So when they ask, “Why should I try?” The school doesn't have a convincing answer.

@MamaCAllen We've been married 27 years, lived in 9 wards in 6 states. Through it all, my husband hasn't needed a ward's support because that's not his need. However, he's participated in some more than others. Why? Those wards had individuals who socialized more than others

In a lot of ways I think men are being distracted by the things of the world and are not supported or held accountable for their roles as leaders. Sports, video games, cars...insert your chosen vice here, distract and pacify men from their duties, which is why we see so many beta males who defer to their wives for everything. I'm not saying those things are inherently bad, but they *do* serve as a distraction regardless. I also think wards should be WAY more active in giving men purpose and support in their role as men.

Woman only. Do you believe LDS wards are struggling to engage Men? I'm seriously interested in this but I don't have much reach so please re-tweet @Mormonger @Manhattva @chrishardman

@DeadBug15 I think it depends on the ward. There are some that were exactly what we needed and there are some we endured. So... it depends

I’ve lived in my current ward for 6.5 years and feel like I wouldn’t miss it if I moved away tomorrow. I participate in the activities we have, and I’m active in my calling, but do others (esp men) feel this same way? Almost zero emotional connection to the ward?
