"Will Western Civilisation flourish, or flounder? It depends on us, & the decisions we make right now. 'The Age of Reconstruction' gives us the formula, based on timeless ideas and wisdom." @arthurbrooks A true honour writing the book given to delegates at @ARC_Conference 2026.

“we were robbed of our most precious possession: our inner life” Nearly 50 yrs after Alexander Solzhenitsyn's famous Harvard Address — widely regarded as one of the greatest speeches of the modern era — his son Ignat Solzhenitsyn brought its message to ARC 2026: a timeless warning about spiritual exhaustion in the West and a call to moral renewal.

ARC's new book 'The Age of Reconstruction' is out now on Amazon! amazon.co.uk/Age-Reconstruc… ...something is shifting in the West. Across our nations, there is a growing sense of unease. An undercurrent of nihilism, the belief that the institutions we inherited are failing, that the stories we once told ourselves no longer hold, and that the future our children face may be smaller than the past we were given. But what if the diagnosis of inevitable decline is wrong? In The Age of Reconstruction, Johnny Patterson makes a sweeping, ambitious, and ultimately hopeful case for Western civilisational renewal. Spanning five interconnected pillars – our shared stories, our social fabric, our economies, our energy systems, and our relationship with technology – Patterson argues that the West's crisis is not terminal but the result of decades of neglect: a slow deconstruction of the foundations that previous generations built. Patterson charts a path from diagnosis to reconstruction. He shows why recovering confidence in our civilisational inheritance is a necessity. He argues that abundant energy and environmental stewardship are allies, not enemies. He makes the case that rebuilding family and community is an economic imperative as much as a moral one. And he confronts the AI revolution head-on, asking whether we have the wisdom to govern the most powerful technology humanity has ever created. While many can point out where things have gone wrong, this book does what most can’t: it lays out a vision of what we must build, how, and why it is still possible. Praise for The Age of Reconstruction: "A superb helicopter view of how we got to the place we are in: compelling in its diagnosis, and essential reading for anyone serious about charting a way forward. This book gives us the capacity to find true north again." — John Anderson, Former Deputy Prime Minister of Australia "This book is the most comprehensive synthesis of ARC's philosophy published to date. It is designed to cast vision for how to build so that our societies continue to thrive. Its claim is that there is a better story, one that animated the heroes of our history, that we should adopt and embrace if we are to build again." — Baroness Philippa Stroud, Co-Founder and Executive Chair of the Alliance For Responsible Citizenship

This is one of the biggest questions facing us right now: Will the AI revolution serve human flourishing or will it enable the worst kind of oppression imaginable? Here's Johnny Patterson's take: There's a big catch-22 here. "The West has to win the AI race. But if the wrong people in the West win it, we’re still screwed." "We need builders rooted in the moral and philosophical traditions of the West — not DeepSeek, and not a frontier model built by someone who’s philosophically illiterate and doesn’t care if AI puts everyone out of work." This was a central theme this week at the incredible @ARC_Conference, which is focused on recovering the timeless virtues, moral foundations, and civilizational wisdom of the West. Hugely delighted and excited that my dear friend @JDP_Patterson’s first book, The Age of Reconstruction, was launched this week at @ARC_Conference It is a beautifully written and extremely important book which I highly recommend It build on ARC’s book “The Best of Our Inheritance” which I had the privilege of editing last year, and it provides ideas for how we rebuild our civilisation

@MrWinMarshall This is essential reading on this. Probably the best article I've read on the subject. "Before long, the range of who qualifies for assisted suicide was expanded. In 2021, the criterion that natural death must be 'reasonably foreseeable' was lifted." theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

Did you know that Michel Foucault has been more cited in the last decade (800,000 academic citations) than Darwin, Einstein and Nietzsche combined since they were alive?

🧵A surreal day Yesterday I was named as one of several foreigners with whom #JimmyLai is accused of "collaborating", and today a message from Jimmy to me asking if I might ask Lord Patten to provide a comment to journalists was produced as "evidence" of a "crime" in court /
