Local LLMs over FAANG. Sensible hybrid approaches as necessary. Principled, not paranoid.

@fjzeit Yeah, I did the same on a private project and to the very end, when I checked out an old version, it pretended it was following its own structure while having effectively randomized all files.

that three week period shortly after the release of Optus 4.5 where i let claude loose on my codebase with less supervision has cost me about 4 weeks of rework. if you are in a position of responsibility and building real software with a “we don’t look at the code anymore” attitude let me just warn you: you have no idea how deeply and painfully you’ve rooted your future.

The working style of OpenClaw founder @steipete is insane. bro runs 4–10 AI coding agents in parallel to generate, review, and commit code at superhuman speed. hitting 500+ commits pretty much every day and did 6,600+ in jan month alone. NVIDIA CEO must be happy seeing him spend $250k worth of tokens every month lmao

Lots of people yelling "war crime" at everything on this app all day long... but here we can see the first real war crime of this war: Iranian cluster ammo falling indiscriminately on a purely civilian target.

@vladuhat999 @saltyAom Watch someone 60+ use word and you'll rip your hair out. Copy & Paste is using the mouse to go to the edit menu. No ctrl+c, ctrl+v, not even right click to copy... Oh, and the youngest generation is equally clueless as soon as it's outside of tiktok and instagram,

Tech people overestimate how an average person use a computer Average people just use Word/Excel (or Google Doc/Sheet) and a browser Most people don’t know how to edit video on a computer Most people can barely locate files Most people don’t even know what a RAM is

@naruto11eth @Pranit 1. I am actively exploring how I can take a hit. To be immune from model price gauging. Qwen3:122B runs on a $50/mo VPS flat. 256GB Ram. Still seeing how far I can take it. If I can set an agent on one task and work on another - win.

we are actually DOOMED if you think about lmao. currently, openai/anthropic subscription costs us $200/mo for max plans. tech folks and people earning enough can afford it. but what most do not realize is the over dependency and addiction. you use llms for everything: web search, code, cowork, grammar, etc etc. it is deeply integrated into your life. if both companies decide to raise the prices, which they will, from $200 to even $800, YOU WILL PAY for it. because you're over dependent and addicted. it will happen 100%.

@naruto11eth @Pranit Well, I run two 3090 at home with a 27B and a 32B model in parallel, which serve most of my zeroclaw requests right now. Not having used local models since Llama2, they have come A LONG way. Plus, privacy. And fallback to API is still possible and done.

1. people dont like taking a hit on the quality claude can create on lower models or local llms models. 2. correct on the phones, but to get 1 prompt from servers to you, it takes insane amount of energy. 3. there is telecom company called jio. they had a free plan, disrupted other networks business, and then hiked up the prices. people are addicted to the internet. :)

@GergelyOrosz How much are you spending that it's "good enough"? Sonnet 4.6 still makes the most glaring mistakes and I have to point out where the errors are, lest it go on an hour long quest. Opus is too expensive to use for anything private. Gemini is even worse

Not sure how Dario could have predicted the step change with the Nov/Dec models (Opus 4.5 / GPT 5.2 and 5.3) that made this possible. And it's not that all code is being written by AI: but inside early-stage startups and AI labs it is 90%+, and it's a leading indicator BUT software engineers are happily employed, as it turns out writing code is just one part of the job, perhaps not even the most challenging one (especially not looking ahead)

Exactly one year ago (10 mar 2025), Dario Amodei: "I think we will be there in 3-6 months, where AI is writing 90% of the code. And then, in 12 months, we may be in a world where AI is writing essentially all of the code." This turned out to be... too darn accurate.

Orgs: wow, I don't need engineers, AI can code for me. It's cheaper. Orgs: I don't need PMs and designers, AI can do that for me. It's cheaper Orgs again: I don't need Senior SDEs, AI can code review for me. Orgs: oh, but I have to pay again. Oh, this exceeds my human cost. And I can't force an agent to work on weekends if it's credits runs out? I could make a human work on same pay. Let me hire a human again.

@Object_Zero_ And that's why the US has bases on Greenland and would most definitely be allowed to station interceptors of any kind there. You know, ally stuff...

Greenland - As viewed from a proper map Why Greenland? Well because Moscow bases almost all of their strategic military assets on the Kola Peninsula next to Finland. This is where the Russian ICBM silos, submarine bases, and their strategic bombers are. If you look at the flight path (ballistic or powered) from Kola to anywhere on the lower 48, then everything goes over Greenland. Greenland is the theatre where any strategic exchange between Washington and Moscow is contested. If you want to intercept a ballistic missile, the best point to do so is at the apogee, at the top of the flight path. The shortest route for an interceptor to get to an apogee is from directly below the apogee. That’s where Greenland is. So, without stating what should happen here, this is **why** the Trump administration says they **need** Greenland for national security. The other thing that is happening is that the Northern Passage through the Arctic is opening up, and soon there will be Chinese cargo ships sailing through the Arctic to Rotterdam. It’s faster than the Suez and the ships aren’t limited to Suezmax size so China and EU trade is going to accelerate a lot. This means Chinese submarines will also be venturing under the Arctic into the Northern Atlantic, IF THEY AREN’T ALREADY DOING SO. Hence, the North East coast of Greenland serves not 1 but 2 critical strategic security objectives of US national security. If this wasn’t clear to you, please understand that the Mercator global map projection is for children and journalists only. It is not a useful guide to where any countries or territories actually are in the real world that we live in. No self respecting adult should be using Mercator for their worldview. Anyone saying “there must be some other secret reason for Trump being interested in Greenland” is a certified ignoramus.
