@davidjoemax @Izzi12 @supremeMilo @sweeenie Well, you better get yasef on the Mamdani board and straighten his ass out, fella. Because estate planning is a real thing among olds. A 75 yo guy is gonna sell that 1M and move to FL and buy a $250k condo to avoid a real 50% inheritance tax for his kids. Bet on it.

A sense a lot of folks support Mamdani based on abstract theory. But here is his, “tax the rich” in practice. Mamdani is proposing to raise New York's estate tax to 50% and have it kick in at just $750,000. Here is a $799,998 home in Staten Island that would have to be sold at the homeowners’ death after a lifetime of struggling to pay mortgage payments, just to meet his policies. THIS is who he is aiming at.

@BillBrasky11 @Izzi12 @supremeMilo @sweeenie That is actually not how taxes work at all. Let's pretend it's 50% of estates over 750K (it's not). Under the American tax system, an estate worth 800K would owe $25,000. You're taxed on the amount over 750K.

@davidjoemax @Izzi12 @supremeMilo @sweeenie You're allowed to read the OP if you want. OP says 50% over $750k. So, I'll make it super-simple, so even a fuckin retard like you can understand it. If a house IS WORTH a million dollars and you inherit it (not crazy-impossible in NY) you owe a HALF-MILLION DOLLARS = 50%

@davidjoemax @BillBrasky11 @supremeMilo @sweeenie The proposal taxes the entire estate once it crosses the $750k threshold, not just the overage. So no, the cliff structure would mean they owe ~$400k. That's the proposal from Mamdani, which is what this is referring to.

@supremeMilo @sweeenie According to this guy 50% of $800,000 is $25,000 This right here is why everyone should leave NYC, because the people ripping the cash out of your pockets don't even know how to count it.

@sweeenie Assuming this scenario as you do that they have no savings, they’d probably owe around $8,000 in taxes

@Squal_1 @supremeMilo @sweeenie We actually don’t know any details since it was a memo but based on what we know just the 50K over 750K would be taxed at lowest rate, likely around 10-16%, so around $5k-$8k total. And there’s likely going to be a separate homeowner carve out. But keep buying the bullshit

@supremeMilo @sweeenie $399,999 because it is over $787,500 in value. It isn't a tiered tax. This isn't income tax. There is only an allowance of 5% over the bracket before you pay 50% on everything. It is called a cliff effect apparently.

There are plenty of kids at 7pm tho. So not sure why you’re cutting off at 6pm. The fact is speed cameras come on 10mph over limit. You should never be going over 25mph in a city, regardless of the hour. So the speed limit can be 25mph but then let’s set the cameras at 27mph. Yall losers would be just as mad.

@KelleyKga @benryanwriter @ckayerawlings Aside from catholic, older nyc schools that have cheap real estate due to owning are elite. Like all long standing privates, basically. New ones who want to be reasonable can’t due to real estate costs.

I’m not convinced deliveries will be adversely affected given the minimal difference in speed and that this law will basically have travel between 20-24mph as opposed to 30-35mph which is dangerous on city streets regardless of hour. Assuming the lights become timed appropriately, which is the bigger factor in city travel — I don’t see a potential issue. I’m all for making delivery more efficient but think speed limit plays a minimal role here.

@davidjoemax You could make a case that it's worth it. But if deliveries take longer, we need more delivery drivers to deliver the same amount, and that costs more. And since the marginal benefits of a 15mph at night are close to zero, I'd argue it's not worth it.

There is a case to be made for this at the start and end of the school day, when children are entering and leaving. But blanketing a 15mph limit, across the 85% of New York that falls under school zones is extortionately expensive. Longer delivery times means higher delivery prices (and so higher prices at the grocery store); slower commutes, for cars and buses, mean fewer hours worked (and less tax revenue).

@KelleyKga @benryanwriter @ckayerawlings I mean nyc private schools all have to be expensive due to cost of real estate. There are a few decent catholic schools that are cheap like this. But nyc real estate prices make low tuition very hard

When Democrats shut down the country for a record 35 days—the longest shutdown in U.S. history—it wasn’t about the people. It was about protecting the cash cow lining their own pockets. Watch—they will shut it down again this month because their side income has been cut into! Minnesota is just the tip of the iceberg of fraud!
