I have a ten year old Doberman named Drago. Over the past decade I’ve bought him every toy you can buy. None of them lasted a day. He ripped them all to shreds. A week ago I was at Target and saw a stuffed lamb (might be a sheep I have no idea) for sale. Bought it for Drago, expected it to last ten minutes. I’m not sure if he thinks it’s his kid or what but he has not only not destroyed it, he brings it everywhere. When he eats, he brings it to his bowl. When he goes outside, he takes it. I’m fairly certain that if I tried to take it from him he would kill me. 😂

She immediately cleared up that Marathon was never designed to pull Destiny numbers. Marathon is an extraction shooter in the Tarkov/Arc Raiders genre, a completely different target audience with some natural overlap from the huge Destiny player base. Expecting it to perform like a live-service looter-shooter is missing the point entirely. Liana pushed back on the “just let Bungie die” takes and the “I’m never touching Marathon” crowd. She reminded everyone that there are real developers behind the name, passionate people who didn’t make the big corporate decisions. She talked about the nuance of the acquisition, how Bungie’s value to Sony isn’t only Marathon, and how the studio could potentially shift into more of an expertise/service role across Sony if needed. Very cool to see was that a Destiny player asked her for reassurance to give them her word with a hand on her heart that playing Marathon actually helps, she replied with a photo hand over her heart, shown below. Whether you love Destiny, are still excited for Marathon like me and the rest of the community, or are somewhere in between, her thread is worth reading. It’s real, emotional, and highlights why player support for Bungie’s current projects actually matters for the future of the studio and the people who work there. Marathon is amazing. Soccer is the hardest sport in the world to play. To put it in perspective you can take any active NBA/NFL player and they would not one who be able to get by me and score I haven’t touched a ball in 3 years. I’d put 100k on it. It’s hilarious how bad a top NFL or NBA player looks tryna play soccer 😂 The US starting 11 are some of the best athletes the country has don’t fantasize about how good these other athletes would be at soccer prolly not that good.

Half the community is going to hate me for saying this, but the only way to keep Bungie alive right now is to support Marathon. People keep comparing Marathon numbers to Destiny and frankly, that's ignorant. Marathon was never designed to do Bungie numbers. The conversations about that were very upfront early. It's more aligned with Tarkov than Destiny. Completely different target markets that just so happen to have a wide intersection with Destiny target markets since it uniquely has so many.
