I think it would be a really great reality tv show to take a couple dozen boomers, ideally recently retired, and give them entry level white-collar jobs in high cost of living cities and basically just saying "Go try to live."

I always ask for any concrete examples of who can't afford what. And, I get nothing specific or if I do it's back to examples of unskilled workers. You need $111k for the median house. And less for half of the houses in the U.S. So 2 $50K salaries will get the you the median and less for half the houses. Show me the examples of non minimum wage workers that can't do this. My maid makes $60k. Her husband, a truck driver makes $80K. Give me your examples.
