It was time to swap the winter wheel/tire set in favor of the OEM set. Can’t help but notice the corrosion with the fancy name @MikeGroppX posted about prior! I’m looking for a tire recommendation 245/45/20 summer tire is Conti ExtremeContact Sport 02 best bang for buck?

@europapenguin @GeorgeRoush It’s unlikely the the use of “Hail Mary” would have been a joke. It’s very common in English, especially with “creative writing” to use a phrase that’s informal. The intent is usually to convey a less formal tone

@jmwilt21 @ChadMoran I do think it’s rather weird to consider it pure human error.
Depends on the study but 0.5-0.75 sec in reaction to start applying the brakes when at full attention then
CT stopping is 126 ft so about 2.8 sec from 60mph. It’s barely enough time in ideal conditions

Idk man, 4 seconds before the crash is basically the start of the video if not slightly before the video started. I think this was 100% human error.
And I think we should be frustrated at Fox for pushing the story with clear intentions to have people blaming Tesla without having all the details.

I normally don't bother armchair quarterbacking these situations. But watching the Tesla Stans come into the comments is funny. Elon said Autopilot (FSD?) was disengaged 4s before the impact which if you watch the video looks like it was going way too fast at that point. Am I missing something?

Why would manufacturers want to sell directly really? EVs are one thing because the dealers don’t really want to sell. Aside though the manufacturers have it good with dealers.

I love ethical littering (apple cores, banana peels, my broken jeep, etc.), you can just leave it on the side of the road and it will give back to nature, it’s beautiful.

Over time yea the m2 is demonstrably worse performance.
1) basic photo editing with affinity 2 is fine.
2) video editing that isn’t Final Cut is useless
3) basic coding works fine
4) it’s a competent work computer

No, an 8GB of ram laptop is not “only for web browsing”
you can code with it
you can do graphic design
you can do video editing
you can run photoshop
you can multitask
Tech bros are subject to a massive bias where not a single one of them has tried an 8 GB of RAM computer in the last 5 to 10 years because they all default to thinking they’re unusable when they’re actually perfectly fine.

Nokian has invented a new hybrid winter tire that deploys the studs when needed. Hakkapeliitta 01. The studs retract and deploy depending on temperature. Studded winter tyres offer worse grip than studless in some winter conditions, but are superior on ice. I am excited to try these!

So, um, things typically retract when it's cold out. What sort of witchcraft is this that has the studs doing the opposite?

@LeviBetz Yea unless you’re willing to invest. That’s where simulation actually has significant usage. Depends on the region but Europe was about 30k for a mold China is 20-30k. All outsourced. Some manufacturers have it in house

This is a prevalent thing in tires.
There’s alot of infrastructure and intentional planning that goes into simulation being useful when compared to the cost (and time) of just making the tires
Groups like GM Motorsport’s Tire Team led by Heather Bobbitt push those boundaries

we we figured it wasn’t worth the time to try to run simulations on something like this when we could literally just throw it in the car and run it till it breaks We got the same failure mode basically every time after about 20 hours of race time, In this application, I really didn’t care for the 3-D printed solution. It looks cool, but I think that there were better places to save weight in this application personally It was so cool to do very fun to see it working

@LeviBetz Once the mold is there it’s the same as the full production process. Same lines, usually the same components unless you’re prototyping with new stuff but even that is mixed on production equipment

@MikeGroppX What's the tire prototyping process look like? I would assume any mold would be extremely expensive, maybe the compounds and bands less so to iterate on?

@MikeGroppX but how much of that is actually done by black donuts rather than the tyre companies themselves? they’re claiming 20 out of 25 of the top manufacturers on their website

I remember service academies running a joint study on this a few years ago, and then absolutely flipping out over the results.
They were doing everything they could to try to get short form video off of the campuses.
I don't know if any of their efforts ever succeeded.
