Ironically, while everyone celebrates AI, it will likely reduce income for most indie makers and devs due to extreme competition. Simple fact: there is ~80% chance that your new app will never reach $10k/mo.

@niklogvinenko Hi @niklogvinenko I watched your interview with starter story and was inspired to go implement your strategy. I'm wondering what tools you used for VPN & esim to target US audience? Also, did you create an acc for naturalwrite on TT or you just created an random user acc?

Cluely’s story is exactly what I mentioned in my previous post. It is a classic business pretending to be a startup. That is why all the stress and drama came from. A much better way for Cluely is to be bootstrapped and simply focus on making 10% more profit than the previous month.

eh kinda, here's our stripes from june 2025 got a random cold call from some woman asking about numbers and told her some bs, did not expect an article about it here's what we were doing at the time: > consumer arr 2.7m, run rate 3.8m > enterprise arr 2.5m, run rate 2.5m > total 5.2m arr, 6.3m run rate this is the only blatantly dishonest thing i've said publicly online, so this is my formal retraction myb, tech crunch foid we're profitable btw

@david_attisaas the biggest apple problem is that you never know exactly what caused rejection/app ban/account ban 0 communication maybe they communicate better if you are $1M/mo and have a personal manager or something

unfortunately apple can remove your app even if has been approved before apple reviewers team is underwater and sometimes... they do mistake and approve apps that aren't compliant and the app maker is paying for THEIR mistakes - which is absurd there are tons of others ai girlfriend chat apps on the app store though...I don't know why exactly why this app got banned - maybe because of the "spicy" keyword

It only happens if the founder does not fully understand what a startup means. 1/ If you build Cursor, Airbnb, or etc. — you are a startup. Your goal is to become the new Apple. Another level of ambition. 2/ If you build a simple saas — you are a classic business. Your goal is just to make 10% more money compared to the prev month. And the stress only comes if you are really the 2 type, but pretend to be the 1 type.

taking VC money is such a headache nobody tells you what actually happens after you take VC money. you stop building a company and start building a story for the next round projections have to be unrealistic, growth has to be aggressive "good business" stops being enough - it has to be venture-scale or you're failing by definition first-time founders chase funding because that's what X, TechCrunch, and every startup podcast celebrates. the raise IS the headline - the proof you made it they don't realize they just signed up for a completely different game I raised hundreds of thousands for my first two startups. both failed I'm now bootstrapping 5 SaaS products, trying to get each to $100K MRR. no board pressure, no forced narratives, 100% freedom - just building things that work for me VC money isn't bad. it's just a different game with different rules, and most founders just don't read them before signing the game you pick matters the most are you building a company or building a fundraising story?

@asaio87 You can check the YC batch and see how many companies they accept each batch. All these companies potentially ~$1B valuation, but I would say the success rate is about 1% (if not less).

@niklogvinenko how many apple's or airbnb's can we have ? on this logic VC money is worth for just 2-3 businesses in every niche, tops

We are planning to release a new app soon! So we are thinking about what to use for subs: @RevenueCat or @adapty I really struggle to choose one because pricing and features are almost the same. So — which tool is BETTER? Any opinion appreciated.

In simple features it is almost the same. You can get payment on both platform. But if you are at the stage of A/B testing and scaling, the team spends most of the time getting better every day, and we are far better. For example, we have Autopilot that checks your competitors, recommends the best price based on countries, and can even automatically push to appstore whenever you want to find the sweet spot and make your app profitable. Also, we are free up to $5k, not $2.5k : )

@jaykch I think 80% of their revenue comes from big companies, and they are (logically) slow in changing things because so many people use it daily. But small- to medium-size companies will def churn.

Finally cancelled our last support tool (Zoho) and fully switched to our in-house solution. It works 24/7, handles 99% of tickets, and no action is required from me. Much better because you can configure it specifically to your needs with the nuances of your business.

@niklogvinenko I had this discussion today. A lot of businesses are building their in-house software solution tailored specifically for their needs because of AI. The barrier to entry is very low now. The coming days and years will be interesting.

@EndrewBiz Yes, moreover — no product excuses, like I can’t compete with this app because they have so many features or such a big team Now it’s only about UX and marketing imo

Cal AI story is true inspiration for indie makers. It looks like any exit story, but the huge difference here is that 3 years ago, it’s hard to believe that you can create a calorie tracker from scratch and compete with MyFitnessPal. We even did not think about going into that niche just because it’s hard technically to make anything close to a valuable product. But starting from 2 years ago, especially the last few months, you can make it in a few hours with claude. It is not perfect, but it’s good enough. And all you need to do is UX and marketing — exactly what Cal AI made extremely successful for the last 2 years. So now there are no hard niches anymore — and I am sure we will see much more stories like that in the next 5 years.

@niklogvinenko I see their accomplishment as one of marketing. I'm not even sure they initially used AI to code this. But a few years later and I agree we're in a different era than they founded in. Huge opportunities.
