I have an old theory about this which I called the generational theory of the presidency. Some generations (or even years) see a series of presidents and some get skipped entirely. Note that many recent losers were adjacent: Kerry 1943, Romney 1947, Hillary 1947, Gore 1948

Here is what I genuinely do not understand about the Robert E. Lee discourse. I get admiring people who did terrible things but still made great contributions to the nation (Thomas Jefferson). I do not get wanting to laud someone who did terrible things AND their most famous contribution to the nation was leading a war that ripped the nation apart, killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, and was waged in defense of an objective evil. Like what exactly did Robert E. Lee do that was GOOD and worthy of America celebrating? He tried to destroy the country in defense of slavery!
And don't give me "he was brave" or "he was a skilled military man" ok so were lots of members of the Imperial Japanese Army but we aren't erecting statues of them in America.

Nobody knows who “Barbara Rose Johns” is. Robert E Lee was about a million times more historically significant. He was also a million times more honorable and courageous than all of the politicians applauding in this video.
