Steph Curry on Azzi Fudd going No. 1 overall in the WNBA Draft:
“The energy around the WNBA Draft this year was unmatched, and seeing Azzi Fudd go No. 1 overall to the Dallas Wings was a special moment for the whole crew. It’s been a true full-circle journey watching her. From her days as a standout at Curry Camp to seeing her dominate at UConn and lead them to that 2025 National Championship was just the beginning. The league is getting a world-class person and we couldn’t be prouder to see a member of the 'Curryverse' taking that next leap to the pro stage. Let’s give her her flowers - she’s earned every bit of this.”

@inezalbright2 Yeah, you wish kids weren't doing these types of things. BUT what could they do now, abortions are still illegal is some places. So what are the options at this point? At least the parents are lending support.

She's 12 and he is 13.
This is sad AF.

@etanthomas36 @ChuckModi1 @WPFWDC The difference is the male athletes are all about that payday. They'll continue to risk their lives to play a game and keep that check coming. They don't stand for anything. Female athletes are females first and they've had to fight for everything. They stand on it! At a cost....

Is the WNBA Sending A Message On What Topics (Palestine, Genocide, Israel) Players Are Not “Allowed” To Protest ? There’s no basketball reason why #TashaCloud shouldn’t be signed. She is a WNBA champion, 3x All Defensive team, 10.1 PPG, 5.1 APG last season

@ChrisLaPuma @CoachAmyTucker @TwistNH7 Not to mention the course restrictions to deter players from graduating in 3 to avoid hitting the portal in year 4. Way to weaponize the degree to hold some power over these athletes. Sounds like bully behavior. Glad 3 of them got ahead early and still won.
English

@rdothilly @CoachAmyTucker @TwistNH7 I can't imagine they didn't investigate (or that they see no problem). But Stanford has never been quick to terminate. It was only after a 2nd investigation confirmed continued misconduct that action was taken against the football coach.
English

OUCH! Sounds like Stanford is a terrible place and they should shut down the women's basketball team!
"[A]n anonymous women’s basketball player giving the school a 3-star rating but writing the coaches deserve a 1-star rating. “There is no development, negative environment, personal attacks, 1/3 of the team walked away during season,” the women’s hooper wrote."

Stanford called out by its own athletes in anonymous national college survey sfgate.com/collegesports/…
English

@ChrisLaPuma @CoachAmyTucker @TwistNH7 Even if they did investigate, they wouldn't listen. Kate has family ties so deep at Stanford, it would take an act of God to remove her. So I'm glad the girls left a d not put up with this type of crap. They are going to shine too!
English

@TomSwartz296286 @TwistNH7 This article didn't speak of the abuse, but when your coach doesn't believe in the talent of the players, you don't get the best of them, you break them down. Kate had a highly talented group and lacked the ability to elevate and inspire them.
English

@rdothilly @TwistNH7 It sounded like a criticism of the basketball coaching, not any kind of abuse. This student doesn't need to hide. Maybe she just isn't good and can't face reality.

I really don’t feel like we need 76 teams in the NCAA Tournament.
Unless there’s a way to guarantee that some of these spots will go to mid-major’s, not a huge fan.
Pete Thamel@PeteThamel
Sources: The NCAA has initiated the final steps to expand the men’s and women’s NCAA basketball tournaments to 76 teams. The expansion is on track to be formalized in the upcoming weeks, with mid-May as the target. The 76-team tournaments begin next year. espn.com/mens-college-b…
English

@TwistNH7 I truly wish the remaining players the best of luck. I hope something changes for the good. Players first and foremost always! But can no longer support Stanford WBB right now until change happens. It's not even about winning or losing really. It's how you treat your players.
English

@TomSwartz296286 @TwistNH7 Anonymity is where the real truth comes from. It's how you protect whistleblowers. And Stanford has just got the whistle blown. They refuse to investigate so here we are. Next year will be another lackluster year at the very bottom of the ACC.
English

@CoachAmyTucker @TwistNH7 Asking a reporter to name their source is outrageous. Asking an abused player to come forward against their abuser is worse. I think they left to get away from the toxicity. The proof is there if you look at it. As a fan, we could see it, the signs are there.
English

@CoachAmyTucker @TwistNH7 Surveys work best when people can be completely honest without FEAR of retaliation. These players have nothing to gain by being dishonest. I've seen the looks on their faces. I see the hurt, the joy lost, and it all makes sense.
English

@speakeasytlkshw @EmmanuelAcho She said she understands they have a job. Moving forward she stated that they won't be commenting any further and they will share what they want to share. I think it was a polite way to address the firestorm that came with the initial questioning. I think that's a reasonable ask

People are acting like Azzi Fudd was only drafted first bc of Paige Bueckers
Ridiculous
She is the perfect piece to add around a play making guard
ELITE shooter, culture builder, maximum effort
She is the Kon Knueppel of Womens Hoops

@StanfordWBBBlog They might have to if they want to put up some wins and maybe dominate a conference again. Maybe. Lack of change at the top equals lack of change. I hope they prove me wrong for the players who stayed with them.
English

@iamcoachval @kateri41 NIL is one thing. I think the players should get what their market value is. However, the portal is the real issue and definitely needs some parameters, so kids aren't just leaving for the next big payday. Maybe you start with one freebie transfer without having to sit out.
English

The game has changed so much since I won 2 National Championships at Stanford.
And… I’m not really sure how I feel about all of it.
NIL is leading the change everyone is talking about and to be honest, I'm glad I played when I did.
(Although we all know I would have brought in generational NIL numbers.)
Unlike so many college athletes nowadays...
My job was just to hoop.
It seems like that is no longer the case:
- Players are scrambling to see what school will give them the most money.
- Coaches are trying to figure out if how many of their players are returning.
- Athletic Directors are wondering how they are supposed to compete with 8-figure budgets.
It's incredible to see these students finally get paid and get a share of the revenue.
But when the cost is 95% yearly roster turnover
It makes me wonder...
Is this is truly the best path for college athletics?
