Aradel is down on NGX, SEPLAT is down on the LSE but SEPLAT on the NGX appears immune. Coincidentally, a new 5% strategic stake has just emerged. Is the NGX seeing genuine price discovery or are we witnessing the effects of a very strong hand in the market? Just asking questions. 👀

This isn't exactly a new development. Anyone who traded the Nigerian market between 2005 and the demutualization era would remember that price movements were often subject to minimum volume requirements before the quoted market price could change. The objective was the same: improve price discovery and reduce the ability of tiny trades to distort valuations. What NGX is doing here is essentially strengthening market depth requirements so that a few shares cannot move the price of high-value stocks. A ₦1,000 stock moving because of 100 shares traded was never an efficient reflection of supply and demand. The real benefit is better liquidity measurement, more credible closing prices, and reduced price manipulation. Mature markets generally prefer prices to be determined by meaningful traded volume, not isolated odd-lot transactions. For old market hands, this feels more like a return to a familiar principle than a completely new innovation.
Nurseinvestor@abalu_uthman

Price discovery about to get better on Ngx. “Stocks trading at N1,000 and above will require a minimum of 10,000 shares to be traded before a price movement can occur. Stocks trading at N500 and below N1,000 will require a minimum of 50,000 shares to trigger a price change. Stocks trading at below N500 will require a minimum of 100,000 shares to move the market price.” Nairametrics.

@ProfitableMan1 @iamtennygee Broker trying to recoup their investment already see a mark of 0.7 cents per share, one would probably not be able to offload independent of said broker. DYOR

Sterling has obtained shareholder approval to raise up to $400 million. The real question isn't the capital. It's what management does with it.

9, This is the new Aradel. The one the market quietly awaits its FY 2025 result together with Q1 2026; both delayed by the consolidation of the 2 new subsidiaries. June 19 is upon us.

A few things you may have ignored: 1, The reason we are even talking of Renaisance - to consolidate or not - is due to Aradel's additional 40% acquisition in ND Western Ltd (in Dec 2025). 2, This additional stake in ND Western did 2 things:
Rufybaba@Rufyb

While we patiently wait for Aradel's audited numbers, the valuation of the coy will depend on whether they consolidate Renaissance's numbers or if they adopt a simple accounting approach. Ordinarily, the method used shouldn't matter. Here is what I mean...

Geregu Power just fell below its own 52-week low. The biggest decliner of the day, by far. GEREGU dropped 10% on Wednesday, the maximum single-day move, closing at N1,019 and trading below its previous 52-week low of N1,132.50. This is one of the sharpest breakdowns on the exchange this month for a stock that has otherwise been a market favorite.

Some Nigerians are angry at this book by Carlos Barragan, as if they did not spend decades glorifying internet fraud in their songs, movies, cultures and communities. As if there aren't well known and respected celebrities who are known internet fraudsters. As if these fraudsters don't almost run night life in cities like Lagos. As if the language of internet fraud is not very common among young people in many places. As if Nigerians did not sing gleefully alongside Nkem Owoh when he sang: "419 no be thief, it's just a game, everybody day play am, if anybody fall mugu, my brother I go chop am.... Oyibo man I go chop your dollar, I go take your money disappear...you are the mugu, I am the master."

The Yahoo Boys aren't just scammers — they're status symbols. Carlos Barragan's new book explores how online fraud became a pathway to wealth, fame and influence in Nigeria. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
