I don't really understand this rant, Your game is in the .1% of games and you're mad a couple of people refunded it? Enjoy your win most devs don't ever reach these heights.

This should not be possible @Steam Would be cool if you could finally do something about your refund policy... Got dozens of reviews like that and 21% refund rate even though the Reviews are 90% very positive... Thats over 55,000 Refunds btw...

@CodeRed_dev you’re heavily underemphasizing the sales loss. they lost over a fifth of their sales as others have pointed out, it’s good for a bigger game to be making this point. get more eyes on the situation which will also help devs of less successful short games

@CodeRed_dev i think the issue is “what warrants a refund?” if i got a small meal, do i get a refund because i ate it in one bite? i think if things are priced appropriately, a refund shouldn’t be necessary if you got the full experience (completed and enjoyed) the game. idk 🤷‍♂️

@CodeRed_dev Tbf a 21% refund rate is extremely high. I think this person should just make their game slightly longer, or add some achievements that take a bit of grind to go over 2h.

Refunds do actually cause a huge hassle when it reaches this amount, if he got employees or any extra expenses this could cause his studio to close down, or if he was solo this could effect his budget for the next project. I mean, you’re right about how he’s at the top 1% and he could have just celebrated his success, but I’m sure he was ranting bc it was a big issue that’s gonna affect him in the future, if not right now 😬

@CodeRed_dev This is missing the point - its not just about him and his money, this could happen to any indie dev on steam and he is trying to raise awareness

@CodeRed_dev if you complete everything a game has to offer, why should you be entitled to return it? you don’t see that anywhere except Steam. i’m all for a forgiving refund policy if a game is bad, doesn’t run on someone’s computer, or was purchased by accident. but not a full completion

@CodeRed_dev Strong disagree. The refunds should be based on enjoyment, not if they can play a whole game inside the window Refunds are normal, but this way of refunding is abnormal It doesn't matter if the rest of us don't make this level. Are you saying, if we did, we need to lose a lil?

@CodeRed_dev It’s obviously wrong. I’m very weary of the argument that if you’re successful at all then being done wrong by consumers is somehow less wrong.

@CodeRed_dev Dawg had to unfollow you for this one. Man lost $165,000 on the 55k people that refunded the game. Yah a "couple of people" 🙄🙄

@CodeRed_dev Being successful doesn’t mean you should accept unfair things just because you "already have a lot". And it’s good to have people like him, using their notoriety to bring topic like these. This a very real issue that affect smaller devs that don’t have the audience to be heard.

@CodeRed_dev He is not annoyed with the refund themselves but the people who liked the game, played it to the end and then refunded because they beat it within 2 hours. In other words, the ones that abuse the system.

@CodeRed_dev What if I paid you money for a good or a service and you hand me the work and I take it and use it. only after that, I open YOUR wallet and I take YOUR money that I… PAID… YOU. What would you feel in that situation?

@CodeRed_dev I agree, this sadly happens for a lot of smaller games but in the end I think it's a net positive for gaming overall. Too many assetflips, shovelware and broken games have created this problem. You can always sell on other platforms with more strict refund policies.

@CodeRed_dev I'm on the fence about this, but the argument could be made for any game. You could speed run a game like Subnautica in 30 minutes and refund it. People should be refunding because they dislike the game, not because they were able to brute force their way thru it in under 2hrs

My thoughts exactly. 55k refunds is 21% of total sales. It means he sold over 270k copies. If it is 2 usd on average, still over 700k usd gross. All in all, it could be around 300k that he got from this within a year. Most indie devs would look at those numbers and go take a smoke.

And the fix is simple!!!! MAKE SOME MORE CONTENT FOR THE GAME. Clearly they don't need to make a lot more content so people HAVE to break the 2hr mark. The knew the refund rules before publishing it. You want to make a game on steam make sure it has more than 2 hours of content even if speed ran. 1 hour 4 mins just need to work a little mor on it. All the time spent crying about the refunds they could of added 30 mins of content.

@CodeRed_dev You must be illiterate if you don't understand the issue here. Honestly, this is a Steam-wide issue and does not only apply to this one dev, though they chose to speak up about it. If you finish a game in its entirety, it should not be refundable. No matter how successful it is.

@CodeRed_dev I mean let’s be real his game is a co-op game made for quick enjoyment with a friend and easy to learn which is slowly starting to become over saturated due to the amount of other co-op games coming out right now.

I think I understand what youre trying to say. But I also find it a strange way to look at things after someone has enjoyed the product that someone else worked hard for regardless of succes or not. If you create something... let's say you cook a meal, you sell it, the person eats the complete meal, says its great! And then doesnt want to pay for it. Is that not considered something thats weird? Or even wrong? Since the person has already eaten the whole meal with 0 complaints. Or should you be happy you got as far as you got cause not everyone does? 🙂

@CodeRed_dev Yeah so just did a quick search online the average refund % is anything from 10%-30% it differs depending on the product region etc.. I guess that's the price of doing business, I think it's more how to stop the bad actors as always the minority spoil it for the majority.

@CodeRed_dev He's refund rate is too big for reviews score. There are lots of small indies who face the same problem and never even get enought to pay bills but no one's gonna see their tweets.
