Map of radioactive fallout in the western US from nuclear testing. I think it's interesting that the first test, Trinity, in New Mexico is visible.

I do wish there was some scale on this. What exactly is being measured? Different elements would likely be dropping out at slightly different locations. It is pretty incredible to think that we have nuked one little area of Nevada nearly 1000 times. Additionally, we've blown up a couple of reactors out there as well.

@CodysLab I wonder if there’s a heat map for cancer rates in the United States if they’re correlated.

@CodysLab It was basically a groundburst so it kicked up a lot of debris.

@CodysLab Interesting that it's the color of iodine. A great representation of I131. You didn't have to live in an intense zone to get a good dose of radioiodine. If you drank milk back then, you got some.

@CodysLab I think it's interesting that the US blew up nukes in the US to protect itself from nukes blowing up in the US. #Logic

@CodysLab I suspect it’s not actual data, just a simulation (a plume dispersion code) with the same source term in the atmosphere at each test point.

@CodysLab Look up Downwinders and Atomic Veterans. The latter have their own national holiday now, too.

@CodysLab Welp. Looks like where I grew up was pretty contaminated. I lost several older family members to cancer that was directly attributed to being downwind of that.

@CodysLab It's not interesting. It's normal. It will be visible for many more years.you contaminated yourselves with radioactivity back then.
