It has nothing to do with any view on rates and US rates have been coming down since last year. What is true is 2/3rds of USDT’s “profits” in ‘24 and 1H’25 have come from BTC and XAU mark to market gains. They are boosting their results by taking directional bets on two assets - not a sustainable model for a stablecoin issuer (and not allowed in any regulated stablecoin jurisdiction other than El Salvador) And that is not working for them this quarter - we have a month to go, but so far they’re on track to lose money in 4Q.
