This is horrific. I'm thinking of the families of these two National Guard members who lost their lives while serving the day before Thanksgiving. Thank you to the first responders who've brought a suspect into custody.

Sending prayers and strength to the friends, families and fellow guardsmen of the two West Virginians who were shot in Washington, D.C. These individuals signed up to serve because they cared about their community and their country, and to have this happen the day before Thanksgiving is heartbreaking.

One of the national guardsmen who was shot by an islamic t*rrorist was identified as Andrew Wolfe. He’s in critical condition. Please stop and say a prayer for him 🙏🏻

Since President Trump's order in August, the National Guard has been patrolling the streets of Washington D.C. in an effort to reduce the city's crime rates. CBS News Senior White House Correspondent @weijia says people living in or visiting D.C. see guardsmen every day near public parks and around public transit stops, particularly at the corner of 17th and I Street NW, which is a major hub for the metro, where the shooting of two guardsmen unfolded on Wednesday. "The White House and officials who I've talked with say they are closely monitoring the situation. They do not want to talk about the politics of why the National Guard is here," Jiang reported. cbsn.ws/48g9Sh9

As expected, MAGA is already spreading conspiracy theories and blaming Democrats for the shooting of two National Guardsmen in DC today. We know nothing about the situation or the shooter and they’re politicizing it. Gross. My thoughts go out to the victims and their families.

Violence has no place in America. Michelle and I are praying for the servicemembers shot in Washington, DC today, and send our love to their families as they enter this holiday season under the most tragic of circumstances.

Jill and I are heartbroken that two members of the National Guard were shot outside the White House. Violence of any kind is unacceptable, and we must all stand united against it. We are praying for the service members and their families.

This Thanksgiving, we’re grateful for President Trump. Because of his bold and visionary leadership, our nation commands respect on the world stage. We are incredibly proud of our president for always putting America first 🇺🇸🙏
