@carlbildt Part of a deal struck - We'll let 2 tankers through if you don't veto the UN security council resolution 2817 condemning Iran's 'egregious attacks' on its neighbours. Both abstained. The Hegemon gets it resolution through and Russia and China get to look good.

Two Russia-linked energy shipments are reportedly heading to Cuba while the island is in a severe fuel crisis after the US tightened pressure on its oil supplies. One tanker, Anatoly Kolodkin, is carrying about 730,000 barrels of crude, and another vessel is reportedly bringing diesel/gasoil, with both moves described as defying Washington’s attempt to squeeze Cuba’s energy lifeline. (The Guardian). What happens next probably depends on how far Trump wants to escalate. A direct U.S. attempt to stop Russian-linked tankers at sea would be much riskier, because then this stops being just Cuba policy and starts looking like a confrontation with Russia.

@carlbildt It is HORRIBLE that the rest of the world is just sitting there and watching while USA starves the people of Cuba. First they watched when they ”took” Venezuela and now silence around Cuba. Also, the world is silent when it comes to the US/Israel war against Iran.

@carlbildt I would wonder if there are any Chinese ships packed with solar panels, windmills & batteries also incoming. The oil shipments are a band aid. A few million solar panels are a more permanent fix. & then they can shift in BYD etc EV'es.

@carlbildt Previous US administrations have been quite happy to maintain the ridiculous sanctions on Cuba but one good thing about the Trump administration is that it's so unpopular that it's attempts to further strangle the island are more likely to backfire.
