The last two election cycles were marred by manipulation and corruption. In the 2022 cycle, only 21 out of 329 seats in the bicameral houses were contested by more than two candidates (the bride and the groom). The problem was not because of how the procedures were framed but the structures of the committees. The Chairman of Somalia’s largest CSO network, SONSA, Mr. Osman Tahlil, presided over a meeting hosted by CES in Mogadishu, where Somali CSO leaders and intellectuals provided policy recommendations to political stakeholders on how to inclusively manage the transition toward peaceful elections in 2026.

The @CESSomalia today hosted a workshop that gathered Somali CSO leaders and intellectuals to strengthen the CSOs' role in state-building and inclusive governance. CES Somalia's governing board has welcomed Mr. Tawakal Ismail as a new member and North American representative.

The @CESSomalia hosted a forum featuring guest speaker @samakabforhouse, a representative in Minnesota’s State Assembly (USA). The forum aimed to share experiences, during which members of the Galkayo District’s democratically elected council asked about municipal development.

The @CESSomalia delivered a presentation to hundreds of educated youth at the Puntland Police Academy about building trust bwn police and the public. The session also addressed how police can balance the rule of law with human rights to ensure community policing. @UNDPSomalia

Caluula District of Puntland: the @CESSomalia team is currently in Caluula District, "where the the name Horn of Africa originates" providing training to the local government to enhance their capacities in governance, planning, service delivery and community engagement. The #CES recognizes that Caluula has significant economic potential for Puntland and Somalia as a whole, and it requires further initiatives to develop social and economic infrastructure.

The @CESSomalia in partnership with the Ministry of Interior of Puntland @MOIFAD, is delivering a capacity-building training for local governments in the areas liberated from ISIS terrorists specifically in Qandala and Balidhidin Districts.
