Capcom says it will not use materials made by generative Al in its games! However, it plans to use AI technology to improve game development efficiency in areas such as graphics, sound and programming. "For our company, we will not implement materials created by generative Al into our game content. On the other hand, we plan to actively utilize it as a technology to help increase efficiency and productivity in the game development process. Therefore, we are currently exploring ways to utilize it in various areas such as graphics, sound and programming." gamespark.jp/article/img/20…

@RekkaAlexiel @CapRichard3 Someone else said it but if done correctly it’s like a sewing machine or a power tool, it didn’t eliminate those jobs but it just made it quicker and less taxing. I do believe they are sort of lying and I do think GenAI will be used in areas which does concern me however

@RekkaAlexiel @CapRichard3 don't be so dense. I'll give you a better example: the devs with the remake of FF7 have stated publicly that they're using AI to match the movements of the lips to a particular language and then they clean it, instead of doing it from scratch. that's a good usage of AI

@cressuhime @RekkaAlexiel @Genki_JPN As always, you get a magical tool and try to use it for everything is star of using it for what's needed and I derstanding what it can actually do. There always have been crappy software. There will be more crappy SW, but this will make the good ones stand out even more.

@CapRichard3 @RekkaAlexiel @Genki_JPN ai based coding often leads to buggy unreadable and barely functioning code i think if anything itll just lead to more buggy games with poor performance, which is fairly alarming given games are starting to cost 80 dollars

@RekkaAlexiel A good company would keep the thing flowing. Or the assisted tools will be good enough to not require it. The endpoint of technological progress it to not have to work anymore. Always has been. The problem is that the economic systems is not geared towards the same goal.

@RekkaAlexiel If the business is serious, no. You simply direct the skills to code that needs the expertise. It could create less reasons to hire new junior developers. But that's the same logic in automated manufacturing.

@RekkaAlexiel @Genki_JPN Don't know if you are aware of things like Claude Code. Basically you make the AI write the game code. Right now it's not good at writing performant oriented code, but it's very useful to write gameplay code and can speed up the process if used by expert programmers.

For me, Crimson Desert is another stark reminder to never get hyped too much for games, no matter how great they look in marketing and sponsored materials. I learned my lesson after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, and I hope that many people do the same with Crimson Desert as well.

@Romudeth Like the artistic piss filter of the PS3 era. Done completely for the sake of realism, definitely.

The people who think "realistic" means "better" don't understand artistic intent. They will never understand why this is bad for games. This will homogenize every title, killing actual artistic vision. This is not something we should champion. Thankfully, the majority of gamers reject this.

This whole DLSS 5 Ai Discourse in a nutshell. Max has great points here, many people people got tricked into thinking it looks good but if you look at the overall picture it actually looks like Shit, this Ai Horseshit doesn't know where the light source is supposed to be and it just makes up random features of characters. I changed my stance on this, Generative Ai on DLSS 5 is Pure Ai Slop, it's pure Horsehit. 🐎💩 #NoAi #NotInmyGames #DLSS5 🐎💩

@Spectre799games Saying that RT and upscaling is optional is like saying that SSR is, dynamic lighting, GI, checkerboard rendering, TAA, baked lighting, physics, PBR materials, subsurface scattering, hair tech, water tech... Those 2 specific elements are part of the graphic tech evolution.

Yeah DLSS 5 is “optional”… You know what else was optional? - Microtransactions - Loot Boxes - Battle Passes - Paid Cosmetics - Ray Tracing (Doom The Dark Ages) - DLSS Everything’s optional until it isn’t anymore. Because none of you have a semblance of standards anymore! 🤷🏻‍♂️

So ... turns out that those studios that "made" those DLSS 5 clips didn't know anything about it, either. It was obviously Nvidia, hence why they all look the same.

The fact that Kojima Productions can achieve this level of detail with Unreal’s Metahuman techstack, specialized scanning equipment, and understanding of the cinematic medium WITHOUT having to rely on 2 RTX 5090s only proves the AI-infected techbros has lost their capability.

@beyond_fps I think it's a tech that it has everything to prove. But it's still something that eats up colours and motion vectors, not a post process only filter. Also, Nvidia stated that it's deterministic. If true, it means it's as valid and usable as a tool as everything else we have.

It's funny how most of the people I see defending DLSS 5 are basically just "you're too stupid to understand it". Kinda reminds me of how we were too stupid to understand NFTs.
Georgian Avasilcutei@nimlot26

After this whole debate about DLSS 5 I came to the conclusion that most of the people talking about it are completely unaware of what they don't know...they're on the peak of ignorance and don't even grasp how little they understand. They just heard generative AI and like Pavlov's dog they just start drooling thinking it's the same shit as unethical slop image generators...for the love of Christ...go and educate yourself before raging on the internet for no reason. DLLS 5 is not a prompt based generator...it's not creating stuff based on someone else's images and hallucinates results. It uses the information from the raster to build up a final render frame with the same information but with better lighting and shading... I'll even give you an example on how much of an impact better shading and lighting has. This is a character I've worked on not long ago. On the left you have a raster render, with some bad shaders. On the right you have a render with raytrace on, a much better shader for both hair and skin. They don't even look like the same person...do they? This is what DLSS5 is doing....getting a result like the one on the right(tbh a lot better) at a smaller cost than actually rendering it. Still the same geo, same textures, same light sources. Some of you will go and say the one on the left is better and it's the artist's vision. It's not...it's just the artist's limitation due to shading and lighting constrains. Every single artist out there would love to get the right result in real time.

@AncientGameplay @HugoClery @JSFILMZ0412 If the DLSS5 layer is as Nvidia is saying, meaning deterministic, it means that with the same inputs it can output always the same output, so, it's as similar to actual DLSS operation as possible.

@BadTakeEnjoyer @SebAaltonen Nvidia in ita marketing says that this system they are making is deterministic. So the problem to solve is to find how minimum can games be to make the end result controlled enough

DLSS5 makes this look like an AI generated dating profile picture used to scam an old person in another country. Just looks like every other AI generated image of a "person." No character or soul to it. Art loses what makes it impressive when it all looks like generated slop.

Qualcuno ci arriva?
