@SaveSaints @breadandposes In Malvinas the UK considers self determination to be paramount and universal. By that logic, Scotland should get as many referendums as they want. Especially after Brexit.

@Whambo99 @provinciangil @martinvalak @Owen_LewisKraus Port Egmont was abandoned in 1774. No one could occupy them because the UK had a fort 40 years earlier? You're also ignoring that France was the actual first occupier and Spanish occupation from 1766 to 1810. By your standards, the UK had no right to occupy them in 1833.

@provinciangil @martinvalak @Owen_LewisKraus They were. Port Egmont was settled by the British in 1765 & the British right to that settlement was recognised by Spain in 1771. And the first person to land on the islands was English, in 1690. All facts that are well documented. The only liar here is you.

@juskeeprunnin The UK bringing hundreds of colonists to a remaining population of a few tens is an artificial change that completely reshaped the islands' population. That in itself invalidates a demand for self determination.

The Expulsion Myth is so, so wrong. The illegal Argentine garrison, comprised of mutinous soldiers, were expelled by the British commander. Civilian settlers (gauchos, creole) were encouraged to STAY. Argentine ships supported the claim the British DIDN’T expell civilians.
Lautaro@lautarojrq

Todos los que afirman que Argentina nunca tuvo población en las Malvinas, sepan que es sencillamente mentira. Hasta 1833 hubo gobernador argentino, asentamientos argentinos y familias argentinas. Fueron todos expulsados por la fuerza.

@3lfares A Palestinian supporting an empire that usurped foreign territory, implanted its population and now demands self determination for them in order to legitimise their presence. I can't possibly see that happening to Palestine LITERALLY NOW.

@3lfares @Alonso_GD The first were the French. Today Israeli settlers want to remain in Israel. Don't swallow British propaganda.

@stiffylov3r @Crow_T_Lorebot @aledornell France gave theirs to Spain, recognising their previous sovereignty. Argentina inherited Spanish rights and settled the islands as well. Then, the UK illegally seized them. They are Argentine.

@ElAvatarTang @avanticult Those ultra-nationalists lessons they teach you in school to indoctrinate a sense of victimhood aren’t real. You are a colonial settler state, not victims or colonialism. You are the colonists.

@originalnameM @avanticult By the way, this isn't just my opinion on self determination, it's the standard practice in international law.

@originalnameM @avanticult You're actually right, though. Pretty much no population is entitled to self determination anymore, with the caveat that when we say self determination, we mean EXTERNAL self determination. It isn't a universal right, it's reserved for colonized peoples.

@ElAvatarTang @avanticult We ejected the Spanish, not the so called “Argentinians”. Maybe we should give it back to Spain. They have more of a claim than you.

@Skeleman71 Childish interpretation of self determination. Ignorance of Argentine possession prior to 1833. Ignorance of Spanish possession prior to 1810. Ignorance of Uti Possidetis Iuris. Pretty much every British apologist does the same.

When it was put to a referendum only 3 people voted not to remain a British territory, 1513 people voted yes. Meanwhile the Argentine position is that they inherited the 200 year old claims of the Spanish empire and are entitled to a territory that never once belonged to them.
