When I set up a new Hetzner VPS first thing I do install Tailscale and once I'm in via Tailscale lock down the firewall to only accept web traffic on HTTPS 443 for Cloudflare IPs and SSH 22 for Tailscale IP
That way nobody can get in
I know I keep repeating this but it should be basics of setting up a new VPS
So basic IMHO it should be part of any VPS service to default install Tailscale and enable it so it's the only way to get in
Why?
A VPS server is just like your laptop or destop computer but now imagine if it's connected to the entire internet with 8 billion people that can access it and try hack it
You want to only have it accessible to you
And if you want to host a website on your VPS (like I do), you should only let Cloudflare access your VPS so it can stand in front and block any hack attempts
Never expose a VPS to the world wide web which realistically is the world WILD web

@levelsio @nfcodes I created a redis instance on hetzner with public port open for few minutes and someone was running a cryptominer the next moment taking 50% CPU 💀 After that I always use @Tailscale 👌

I didn't examine every valuation, but repricing is logical.
Example: we looked at a quoting software package - $180k to implement, $100k/year sub. Got the quote back a couple weeks ago.
Instead, we pivoted to using AI to build our own tool. Nearly done. Cost: <$20 of compute and some time.
Probably less brain damage than onboarding a vendor, too.
Some tools will remain, some will disappear, and the market will find the right outcome, but for now, I could see it being tough out there.

Call me old fashioned but unless blocks was wildly inefficient with a bloated workforce doing very little (possible), I don’t think moves like this will age well. I honestly don’t think AI tools are there yet. This feels like over-exuberance that will get walked back with time.

@PadraicMcC Have Claude/Codex build an MVP that fits your fund's portfolio better than any horizontal SaaS ever could. I think you would be incredibly impressed with what it could do in 4-6 hours of prompting.
Hand that off to your development partners to harden & professionalize it.

You are correct, more productive and actually (counterintuitively) drives more effort . I have agents running nearly 24 hours a day. I long thought that it would enable me to "touch grass" and spend all of my time playing golf as my custom agents did all of my work.
It's the exact opposite. I am glued to my computer and work more hours than ever. Someone smarter than me can explain the psychology behind this.

I don’t know a whole lot so discount away and as a small firm that is running down the road of firm ai planning and investment, my take is this stuff will make associates far more productive (not obsolete).

Just spoke with a couple of MDs at a large institutional private equity fund They still believe that Claude is a fad and it will take decades before any real companies adopt them Currently only subscribed to a ChatGPT corporate account at work Mentioned multiple times that absolutely nothing has changed about their workflow since AI was released in 2022 Just goes to show that this app is an absolute bubble and no one outside of here is really prepared for what is coming
