@Tyroist @atrupar We’ve had one of these in Wales UK since the 1980s. It’s called the Dinorwic Hydroelectric Pumping Scheme (aka Electric Mountain) and it works!

At a minimum pumping water uphill from energy created from wind turbines or solar panels stores energy as potential energy, a process known as pumped hydro storage (PHS). When there is surplus electricity, water is pumped to a higher reservoir, converting electrical energy into stored gravitational potential energy. Later, the water can be released downhill through turbines to generate electricity when power is needed, with the process being about 70-85% efficient.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright: "With wind and solar, you don't know when they're gonna be there and when they're gonna go away. That's just not productive for the electricity grid. They end up just making the reliable stuff have to turn down when the wind is blowing, turn back up again when the wind dies."

The coverage of this EU deal is like the last five years haven't happened. Polls show overwhelming support for a closer relationship with the EU, with even Reform voters backing things like the youth mobility scheme and yet the coverage is still framed about "betrayals" of Brexit
