@PaulHerzberg6 @susie_dent It immediately made me think of twirlies too! And West Yorkshire tourist families to the East and North Yorkshire coastline are sometimes referred to as Comfort Kids because, if you ask them, they'll say they've "come for t' day" 🙂

@susie_dent It reminds me of a similar Yorkshire(?) name for pensioners: Twirlies. Their bus pass was from 9 o'clock, so when they went into town they would often ask "I am too early?".

Word of the day is ‘tamalou’: a French name for an older person who no longer greets their friends with ‘how was your holiday?, but with ‘t’as mal où ?’, ‘where does it hurt?’. There follows an enthusiastic account of aches and pains and doctor’s appointments.

@loulouyoohoo Arguments are either rational or emotional. Rational will never convince emotional and can't understand why (MAGA v Dems). Brexit is emotional, remain is rational. Two different languages.

Man rings Vine show to say he believes he’s better off because of Brexit, he is, asked to give examples of how he is better off because of brexit. ‘well I’m better off because we can make our own rules now’ no other reason given.. Jesus wept, some people are beyond help..

Look, I’m not going to have a row with my husband on our wedding anniversary of all days. But, BIZARRELY, he had never before heard the expression “It’s not the hen that cackles most that lays the largest egg”. He’s just laughing incredulously and implying I made it up.

@lauramichelle71 @clhubes Similar story. Our son needed surgery on his eye when he was 6. Nil by mouth for 24 hours beforehand. We waited forever to be called down to surgery with him pleading the whole time that he just wanted something to eat. What he remembers? A nurse bringing him a cheese sandwich.

@clhubes Totally weird but can be good sometimes I guess? We had to bring my 5yo last year to the hospital and get an IV and it was the most traumatic thing ever and I thought she'd be scarred forever and I recently mentioned it and she has zero memory of it. Bizarre.

Just wondering how much that trip to Italy would have cost… You know The one where Johnson stayed & partied at the mansion belonging to the son of a KGB agent who he then put in the Lords But no one bothered to find out This is GB News style journalism and we deserve better.

@MatthewLister3 @JamesEFoster @MarinaPurkiss It's all hypocrisy. The Tory gravy train was in a different league entirely and the media weren't bothered. BUT, however minor in comparison & however Starmer tries to justify it, this IS still a gravy train and he's a hypocrite if he doesn't stop it. He can't have it both ways.

@JamesEFoster @MarinaPurkiss Exactly 👍… labour were meant to be better… the public view this as the usual gravy train of corruption and lies…. So many people and media commentators missing the basic simple fact that this stinks

@LarryHarry_Copy The Blitz Spirit of a viciously overcrowded train is the one part I would genuinely miss, if we had a remotely functional railway. I hope you're OK, glad you had decent people around at the time. (Then again, Leeds and Manchester are probably the best people of all.)

Big shout out thanks to the two young women on the inhumanely crowded 2.15pm MCR Victoria to Leeds train today who made me laugh all the while we were standing sardines and looked out for me when I suddenly needed more air and ended up on the floor. Whoever you are - THANK YOU!

@TonyTame @Michael_R_Grant @robertshrimsley Pretty certain that would fall under the "unless there's an emergency" caveat and he'd be there for the COBRA meetings. "Always available" rather than "always working" is a perfectly reasonable and sensible approach.

@Michael_R_Grant @robertshrimsley what if Putin attacks on the weekend? Does the PM tell everyone they'll look at it Monday morning. Surely everyday is potentially a working day as PM, no?

I don't believe the attack on Starmer and Friday nights is motivated by antisemitism (just desperation) but I doubt it would be happening if he said I keep Sunday mornings free to take my family to church

@oldenoughtosay @askvirginia @RGibsongirl Have you looked into mat allowance? If you don't qualify for stat mat pay, some circumstances allow you to claim mat allowance from the Gov't rather than get mat pay from your employer. Good luck. And with the petty fence! And for the safe arrival of your baby too, obviously!

@LarryHarry_Copy Alas, not really, no ... the Hull & East Riding Astronomers meet monthly and you do get family coming to some of the talks. The East Riding Astronomers also meet monthly at Woodmansey for telescope viewings. Email me (brad.k.gibson@gmail.com) for details...

@profbradgibson My 10yr old is fascinated with space and physics and, well, science generally! He was just telling me about different parts of an atom and I had no idea what he was talking about! 🫣 Are there ever any family events/open lectures or anything at the uni please?

I book all the travel for every employees in a large organisation. I always book via a cashback site and hotels site that offer rewards. Last year I earned enough free nights to cover my family's three week stay to Florida this summer and enough cash back to cover the flights

#Budget "Core inflation is now lower than in nearly half of the economies in the EU". AKA we're not even in the top 50%. "Your Jeremy would have crashed the economy". Casually hoping nobody notices they did exactly this by snarking at Labour for it in the hypothetical. Clowns.

@IanDunt This feels like ensuring the mass vote goes to Labour so they get the mess while ensuring Tory party donations continue. Then present as a reformed Tory party when Labour inevitably fails the impossible task of fixing 50 years' worth of problems in 5 years. Rinse & repeat.
