@Lib_Development Aren't the "incidents" for Houston Metro mostly the vehicles hitting cyclists and pedestrians, that's just categorically different from crime, obviously still bad though

When I travelled to Houston from Chicago 2 years ago and then travelled across the city on mass transit, I noticed 2 things: 1) how much safer I felt on Houston Metro vs the CTA 2) how nonwhite Houston Metro’s ridership was So, uh, respectfully, swing and a miss there

I recently started using BayWheels as a way of saving $ relative to rideshare apps, and I assumed I'd cut my spend by ~2x My transportation spend has instead 4x'ed Apparently, I've had so much latent demand for cheap transportation that I've traveled 8x than I normally would I bike literally everywhere and it no longer matters to me how far away things are, because I can get anywhere in SF in <20 minutes for <$5 For example, I went to Lake Merced yesterday (near Daly City!!) in about 35 minutes for $8 which is 3x cheaper than the heavily subsidized Tesla Robotaxi Speed is comparable or faster, so the only real tradeoff is safety-- have to be careful! But for most routes in SF, you can go with 50%+ protected bike lanes, and this number is only increasing

There’s one anon I follow who is still job-stacking as a SWE and he appears to be working somewhere between 10-25 jobs at any given time. You need to worry less about Claude and more about a terminally insane jobstacker. If you think about it he’s basically a rollup for swe.

obviously the iran arrangement as reported is or ought to be unacceptable to israel. solution for them is straightforward, using a tactic every other side is using to great effect. which is to say israel should simply close the strait of hormuz until trump does what they want

@Philip_DT ferryboats seem (to me, subjectively) to be one of the most lethal transportation methods on the condition that there is an accident; it seems like the survival rate is lower than a lot of plane crashes lmao

Helicopters are a fundamentally flawed design The moment you even slightly hit or lose the tail rotor the whole thing spins out of control and it's a flying coffin You're at least 200x more likely to die in a helicopter than a commercial jet I don't go in them and I think they should be replaced by multirotor drone type vehicles which are much much safer
