Opposing the uniparty is hard and requires focus. The key issues aren't left vs right - they are outsider vs establishment

The first part of this answer is incorrect, if you're a progressive. She was asked if she would replace Trump with Tucker Carlson and she said she wouldn't, and that it was a toss-up. If you think Tucker has all of the wrong positions Trump has on everything else, no problem. But Tucker is against the war and would withdraw from it immediately. He's also opposed to the genocide and to funding Israel. Those are all really, really important issues - and he is 100% better than Trump on those. The question wasn't whether you'd vote for Tucker or if you like him better than Bernie. It was whether he's better than Trump. That's not close. That should have been a very easy yes. But she's worried about her brand. If she says something nice about Tucker, even if it's vis a vis Trump, some on the left will jump down her throat. Too politically risky!

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was asked if she believes whether a female or a gay president will move to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. first. 🤔

I don't endorse rent control in any way. But I wish economists were more self-reflective. Way more than 2% of economists endorsed neo-liberalism and other policies that hollowed out the middle class. That leads to bad ideas like rent control. Or are you arguing that the economic system of the last 30 years has been healthy?

This is why I don't love making Citizens United the centerpiece of getting $ out of politics - isn't this coordination already illegal under CU? What we really need is a change in the culture that makes this kind of funding toxic. But if repealing CU is the easier political sell, I won't lose sleep over that.

This report is explosive and I’m shocked it hasn’t been on my timeline. Billionaire funded PACs are creating these nesting dolls of different organizations that when it comes down to it are basically staffing campaigns which is insanely illegal

George W Bush can say it, but apparently you can't "I listened to Paulson and Bernanke and spent your money to bail out the guys who created the instruments in the first place, which is an absolute political disaster. You wonder why populism is on the rise. It starts with taking taxpayers’ money and giving it to the powerful. It really irritated a lot of Americans, and they haven’t gotten over it yet."

@emilyjashinsky Do livestreams monetize better? I don't care how much I like a person, I have no interest hearing them ramble for hours. A structured show seems like such a better product.

@MisesChair @ComicDaveSmith nailed it with Tucker - We are Wile-e Coyote. We've gone off the cliff. Our legs are still pedaling furiously and we haven't looked down yet. But it's coming inevitably.

Man, this is a serious "No true Scotsman" argument. I've heard @oren_cass criticize tons of details about how Trump implemented tariffs - and even this post is about tariffs in general, not anything Trump specific. As I hear it, Oren's core arguments are 1) it will take more than a year for tariffs to drive manufacturing growth and 2) the next generation of R policy folks are buying in to the argument at a core level, so they'll do a better job than Trump. This may be optimistic, but I don't see any point in calling it dishonest unless you're actively trying to shrink your coalition.

@mattgaetz @SenSchumer With all due respect Matt, is partisanship really the way here? This seems like a perfect illustration of how the uniparty creates their own crisis. Nobody should look good coming out of this.

@Cernovich I see this reposted by Matt Stoller - which is great, but is anyone trying to unite a coalition against the uniparty? It seems so obvious to me that this is the only path forward, yet I don't see any real effort. The uniparty is clearly united - how do we win if we can't unite?

@ryangrim @RepJoshG Doesn't this seem confusing? At least 3 of the 4 Dems who voted against the previous war powers resolution are supporting this one? Am I missing something? Or does this not scream fake opposition?

Responding to two people I respect quite a bit: are you guys accomplishing anything with the snarky analogies? It appears that people are okay with this bill, except for one provision - don't we want to avoid having that kill the bill? Or is one side trying to kill the bill that way? If so, it seems like we should be focusing the argument in that direction.

@oren_cass Landlords sell the use of the house to people. The people don't own the house at the end, but then neither will I own the chicken we're about to eat for dinner after it has passed through my digestive system.

No, it means Perdue Farms should sell chicken to people instead of eating the chicken itself. Oh wait, it doesn't make sense to say that Perdue Farms would eat the chicken, because corporations aren't people. Idiocracy indeed.
Alex Tabarrok@ATabarrok

What does “Homes are for People, Not Corporations” even mean?–this is a slogan for the Idiocracy era. “Food is for People, Not Corporations,” so we should ban Perdue Farms and McDonald’s? marginalrevolution.com/marginalrevolu…

I generally agree with this, but I think it's a mistake to leave out folks on the right who have already proven they're willing to vote against the donor class by the millions. The oligarchs are united across parties - the opposition needs to be too. The only requirements should be 1) no regime change wars 2) get big $ out of politics 3) an economy that works for ordinary people. You're right that we should welcome disagreement on the details of #3 as long as you're seriously committed to the goal - that's how a healthy politics would work.

This is the way forward. This is how the Democratic Party returns to being the big tent centered on being the party of working class Americans united against a society and economy built for the benefit of the oligarch donor class.

Is there an antiwar movement in the US? I would love to see a left-right coalition rather than something explicitly left coded*. *I hated that the biggest organizer of anti-war rallies during the Iraq war was openly communist. Doesn't mean they were wrong about the war, but I'd rather they not lead here.

It really boggles the mind why people like Neera Tanden have influence over anyone on the left. She shut down the progressive youth and media wings of CAP, raised UAE money and is a friend to Benjamin Netanyahu.
