Shipyards desperately need welders, pipefitters, and other skilled workers. But this work is grueling and dangerous. cbsn.ws/4bIyP6O

The deterrent effect of gathering DNA from people arrested for felonies is large, and illustrates something important about crime. 1/2

It feels truly insane to me that people used to wear full-length cotton suit jackets and dress pants at all times. This is Manhattan in the height of summer, late June 1936! And these are factory workers!

@upstatefederlst But if he’s outmatched… Do you want the best radiologist or the white male just because reasons? It’s all semantics till your life or your loved ones are. You’ll take the best doctor and they’re definitely many who aren’t American born.

“They killed my mother — and before that, my brother. I urge everyone: do not go to the American aid distribution points soaked in blood. This bag only contains 2 empty flour sacks — nothing else — & yet they shot & killed my mother as she tried to get us something to eat today.”

I'm watching the Harry potter movies with my son, and I can't express to you the degree to which this woman is the perfect embodiment of the spirit which has infected our culture.

I think Democrats are severely under appreciating the damage it will do to their anti-ICE messaging for flocks of normies to see ICE agents at airports being respectful and helpful to busy travelers, as seems like the most likely case here Most of these people have likely never encountered an ICE agent in person… Putting a real, friendly, and helpful face on them has a huge amount of PR potential for the agency

The problem with US shipyards is that they suck at building ships. It’s not a labor shortage, they’re just bad at their jobs. Productivity is super low, you can’t fix that with more workers.

Chris will admit that White men are the most institutionally discriminated group for the past 50 years but if you say the word “oppressed” the suddenly he brings up slaves from 200 years ago lmao

Urbanists are loathe to admit it, but Vision Zero has been a flop. All the public education campaigns and road diets can't compete with phone-distracted drivers. As @mattyglesias says, the rational response would be to embrace autonomous cars. But urbanists aren't.

Would love to see developers build suburbia like this.

@DisaffectedPod The reason this debate is going on is that prominent people are openly saying that white executives, etc today ARE more oppressed than US Black...and Irish, etc...historical slaves.

The US is suffering brain drain to Europe and Asia because nobody wants to live in a country like this. Even if you were ambivalent, who would want to raise children in the US? In a world where you can get a passport and move, why would you raise your child to be a slave here?

"Allowing virtually every citizen to vote has been a catastrophic disaster for the United States. We have allowed illiterate, uneducated citizens to hold hostage the world’s largest economy, most powerful military, and a robust intellectual culture. It has decimated the concept of civitas and allowed powerful actors with bad intentions to influence those who cannot think for themselves. To restore the United States, we must seriously consider ending universal suffrage." Read more below.

Apparently this is because redditors have one paid of “nice shoes” they keep in the back of their closet that they wear once every few years, and rubber soles degrade and fall apart if they’re not worn.

A lot has changed in the United States in the last 25 years. None of it for the better. Though I suppose the writing was on the wall if I allow for honest retrospection.
