@techpoodle This is excellent, really great tool. You could definitely drop the gas boiler efficiency to around 85% for seasonal heating efficiency plus the standing charge. With an excellent ASHP a SCOP of 5 is definitely achievable too.

Ok here is a quick video showing my first stab at a more comprehensive spreadsheet to estimate the running costs of an ASHP. You can choose the tariff, set the calculated heat load of the house at design temp, choose the average outside temp, factor in storage available, etc. I need to figure out a better way to show the heat load over a heating season, factoring in how outside temps will affect the COP and then use that to drive the results for differing overall SCOP figures.

@GasSafePete You’re obviously leaving a fantastic long and lasting impression with your past customers if they ask you back 15 years later. I think you’re missing a great revenue opportunity there. Let me know if you need any advise on setting up a maintenance plan I’d be happy to help😁

@PCLNetZero Yes of course we want to service our own boilers, had a first year service from us but we don't do a service/maintenance contract, had no idea he had one in place until today. I guess some people feel more at ease with that extra peace of mind.

Customer wants quote for new boiler. We fitted his original boiler 15 years ago, he's never had a problem with it, just wants an upgrade. He's got a service/maintenance contract £23 a month from a national company. £23 x 12 months = £276 a year. £276 x 15 years = £4140 Worth it?

@vaillantuk To help us win more work from the find an installer tool, can we have the FCA accredited badge if we are accredited by the FCA, and not just a 3rd party such as Hiber ?

@ScottishGasMan There is a little bit of detail in MIS3005 quoting BS6700. You would need to do a DHW reheat illustration and get the customer to agree they are happy with the reheat times with the ASHP model you have chosen, If DHW is critical I can’t see a problem with increasing the ASHP.

Quick MCS question. When sizing an ASHP, Home heat loss is say 7kW, DHW cylinder is 300 litres. Does the MCS design say 7kW HP needed, or will they add extra for the DHW capacity? I know I wouldn't but just wandering if A) MCS do and B) if not is an installer allowed to add extra

@mikefosterEUA With the subsidies it is possible but like with anything, if you focus on low prices more important factors will be sacrificed.

@HeatCalculation We also have a duty to protect the environment, although rare, a condenser splitting could lose refrigerant into the atmosphere with GWPs upwards of 2000, any others are flammable.

@HeatCalculation Unlikely, but gas boilers in outside compartments don’t get covered in snow or exposed to freezing conditions and winds & the cupboard can also be insulated. They also don’t potentially cost upwards of 7k to replace and if a condenser splits you can be losing refrigerant.

Ok, we are in #NorthernIreland this week looking at training venues and also discussing anti-freeze valves on Heat Pump installs. Why are we installing them and what is the true cost benefit as we cannot fathom? Oil boilers don’t have them so please discuss? #Banter

@HeatCalculation I’m not a fan. Installation has to be as MI’s to be effective. Not all installation will be able to accommodate. God forbid if they fail.

@Adrianepdavey @RichMWPHS Only the concept is the same, the heat absorption from the refrigerant cycle in a domestic fridge wouldn’t be able to cover the domestic how water and space heating of a 4 bed detached property, plus many other additional components and of course the design and installation.

@RichMWPHS Why are air source heat pumps so expensive when they are exactly the same as a fridge or air conditioning unit?

For many years I have really championed @OctopusEnergy for the unique way they have reinvented electricity supply & supported low carbon technology growth. However, this is a recent heat pump installation by Octopus for one of their customers. I feel sorry for the… 1/3

@ashleyljames You can still use google Authenticator App which is incredibly secure (I’d recommend it over text) I guess text messages cost money to send out and Elon is starting to make noticeable differences between paid and unpaid subscriptions. Are you not a blue tick subscriber though?

So now I either have to pay or make my account easier to hack? Seems fool proof. Especially for the world leaders and other global voices. Cheers Elon 👍

Last month I worked undercover with debt collectors breaking into homes of vulnerable families for British Gas We were sent to force-fit prepayment meters at homes including one where a mum was with her 4 week old baby. If families cannot top up, their heating can be cut off

@suburbanpirate @betateach @Your_Energy_YW In this image I would imagine that the heat signature has a lot of interference from light coming in from behind the window. There are a lot of factors that could influence the image. If you are looking for cold spots try at night and play with the settings, happy hunting 😃
