Schumer and Thune’s Senate rammed through an amended H.R. 7147 by voice vote, in an attempt to kneecap Trump's border agenda at 2AM, and then went on recess. The bill to fund the Department of Homeland Security deliberately stripped out critical funding for ICE enforcement and key parts of CBP border security. No real debate. Only five Senators on the floor. Pure sabotage dressed up as “compromise.” Speaker Mike Johnson called it exactly what it was: “This gambit that was done last night is a joke.” He refused to rubber-stamp it. The House rejected the Senate’s watered-down version and passed its own continuing resolution (213-203) that fully funds the entire Department of Homeland Security, including ICE, through May 22. This isn’t some minor agency we’re talking about. DHS is the third-largest in the federal government, with over 260,000 dedicated men and women across components like ICE, TSA, the Coast Guard, CBP, and more. This is the second time in recent months these frontline agents have been forced to work without pay. The current partial shutdown is now the second longest in U.S. history, the longest was last year also done by these same Democrats. Thanks to President Trump’s executive order, TSA workers will finally get paid despite Congress dragging its feet. But without the House’s stand, agents would still be left hanging while Democrats play politics with national security. This is completely unprecedented: an opposition party so determined to obstruct that they’d rather risk chaos at our airports and borders than give Trump the tools to secure America. The House just bought us breathing room until May 22. But the real fight is in the Senate, where spineless enablers like Thune bend and Machiavellian operators like Schumer actively work to undermine enforcement. House Republicans held the line. Senator John Barrasso, as Senate Majority Whip, played a CENTRAL role in pushing through the partial DHS funding bill at 3 a.m. in a near-empty Senate chamber. At 3 a.m., he declared 'Time is up' and helped push the partial bill through by voice vote in an empty chamber — funding everything except ICE/CBP enforcement. No roll call. No accountability. Schmitt tried to fix it immediately with a separate ICE bill. Democrats blocked it. This is how trust erodes. House is rejecting it.
