@RealSamRogers Generally, you find that people who join the Navy and the Air Force did it for benefits. People who joined the Marines and Army did it for the reasons you listed above + proving something to themselves, being able to fight against (what you assume) are bad people.

Plenty of people who enlist say this because it's the only reason that the cowards they're surrounded by in life will accept. Patriotism, adventure, boredom or escape (from vice, family or environment) were far more consistent in my experience. Met one free college guy in 10 yrs.

I’ve been in Congress through divided governments, bitter fights, and historic crises. I’ve never seen anything like the last 24 hours. Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson killed Republican Senate Majority Leader John Thune’s bipartisan deal to fund the TSA, Coast Guard, and FEMA.  It was a deal that had the support of Senate Republicans and Democrats alike, 100-0! Why? Because Johnson places his own political survival and fealty to Trump over all else, including long waits at airports or anything else. We could have passed it in the House easily if only Johnson had allowed the vote to proceed. But instead he blew up the whole thing. Where this goes next is anyone’s guess, but what’s very clear is that Johnson is the worst and most subservient speaker in modern American history.

People straight out of collage who know the job market has basically abandoned them for cheap labour is joining the one organization still offering them viable, fast track careers and motivation to remove those who even people in government openly, gleefully say they want replacing them in the job market. It's a real mystery why so many young people sign up when elected officials say "who is going to do (so and so) jobs" they never say "our youth" because they've abandoned them. Why is this always the playbook. Absolutely strangle young peoples opportunities, tell them they have no future, they have an entire planet and AI to contend with in local job markets and you do not care what happens to them as long as you get cheaper roofers. Don't even attempt offering them any viable solution to struggles you caused them and then when your enemy is the only one offering them one, you go "Heh, always knew the youth were fascists in waiting"

@BravoKiloActual Its because they cant use a calculator on the ASVAB even though they all grew up learning the foundations of math using a calculator. They could allow a calculator for the ASVAB and the scores would dramatically improve over night But instead they will just recruit 60 year olds
