They offered a state with some limitations - limitations that were perfectly rational & should not have mattered to Palestinians.

That alone should tell you that the Israelis were never serious about a two state solution. Although I do think there are some important differences.. 1) JFK’s thinking was far more flexible than LBJ’s ever was.. especially on 3rd world issues 2) JFK really was profoundly impacted by the Cuban Missile Crisis.. 3) this would have been JFK’s second term whereas LBJ was terrified Bobby would run to his right on Vietnam
